Reluctant Aquanauts

Chicago's number 2 surf band...

About Me

In 2004 Bill Aqua and Matt Aqua formed the Reluctant Aquanauts and quickly developed a repertoire of lesser known early 1960's surf covers along with their own original compositions. Within a few months drummer Alex Aqua, bringing his spot-on drumming and recording skills, rounded out the trio. Hailing from Chicago Illinois with their Fender guitars, out of production Fender amps, and cardigan sweaters, the Reluctant Aquanauts high voltage sound draws heavily on their influences, which include Eddie and the Showmen, Jim Messina and the Jesters, and the Fender IV.After two years of aggressive reverb-drenched traditional instrumental, the Reluctant Aquanauts, like many of the original surf bands, have started adapting early 1960's rock n' roll frat party numbers to their sets. Drawing from bands like the Bobby Fuller Fuller Four, the Pyramids, the Fablous Wailers, the Trashmen, and the Crossfires.

Album Review - Zak Izbinsky

"If you're tired of hearing one too many instrumental combos that sound like Pink Floyd armed with reverb tanks or covers of "Pipeline" played by wedding band members with digital multi-effects pedals...
