Doctor Moody
Surgery Music UK’s Head Music Producer, Doctor Moody, a renowned producer, recording artist and music performer, has been affiliated with, and contributed a large amount of revenue for major record companies, advertising companies and club nights throughout his career. The Doctor first hit the big time when he moved to Bristol in 1996 attracted by the sounds of Massive Attack, Portishead and the ‘Bristol beat’. Just as he landed in Bristol a tiny beats club had opened its doors. The night was called Blowpop, fronted by the pioneering DJ’s John Stapleton (Dope on Plastic) and Mr Craig. Doctor Moody joined the Blowpop team, bringing on board his seamless mixing skills and jedi red eye cuts and drops. Gradually the full resident line up that stands today comprising of John Stapleton, All Funked Up, Mr Craig and the legendary Stereo 8 (Fingerlickin Records) was made up. Over the next 10 years the club grew, winning awards for the UK’s best club (Mixmag Magazine) and attracting DJ’s, musicians and clubbers from the UK and around the world. A few of the many DJ’s the Doctor has rocked the Blowpop dance floor with include Massive Attack, Roni Size, The Plump DJ’s, Freq Nasty, The Freestylers, Jon Carter and Mr Scruff. In 2000 the doctor had his first official release on React Records with a tune called Chubbaholic, this tune was later used for the BMW X3 advert. On a live tip the doctor has fronted a number of successful bands including Moodydood, Doctor Moody and the Dreaming Man and The I’ll Patients. All of which had a fantastic run of gigs in the UK at Glastonbury, The Eclipse Festival and Ashton Court. More recently the Doctor has worked on advert music for Courvoisier Liquor and has just been involved in composing the music for award winning Diverse Productions (Channel 4). The Doctor was recently named one of the pioneers of the Bristol Music scene in an article by Venue Magazine.
