About Me

SILVERTONE’S debut EP is due out June 1st 2007!! Here’s how it all went down….
Before even the first note, we all agreed upon our intent; to capture the integral tone, energy and musicality of the band with as little manipulation as possible. In other words, we avoided the temptations afforded by the digital age to create a product of rough honesty. To this end we chose to record live directly to 2” analog tapes.
Next, we needed an engineer willing and able to bring this vision to fruition. Working under the guidance and expertise of Joshua Kessler at Bushwick Studio in Brooklyn, NY, we were able to record, mix and master the entire 6-track EP in just six days! Throughout the production process, we kept our signals entirely in the analog, using the live tracks as a sonic foundation, with overdubs only on vocals, solos and a few acoustic instruments. The final mixes were dropped to 1/2” analog tape for mastering.
The icing on the cake came from Nathan James at Jigsaw Sound understood our vision, and managed to preserve the sonic integrity of the recording while coaxing it gently into the digital abyss. The holistic feel of the record rather than focus on discrete detail has resulted in a tonal quality reminiscent of vintage recording sessions while creating a cutting edge feel, that is uniquely the SILVERTONE sound. We hope you feel it too!!
Words from Eric
Everything I hear influences me. From the sound of the subway over its tracks to the sound of comfortable and uncomfortable silence, it all comes in and now it is just time for it to go. It is really simple. You stop for a second and think about what you are thinking and you put it on record. The next thing you know it is a melody and the words actually sing themselves off the paper. My goal is to take people on a short visual trip to wherever I am feeling. It can be a physical destination. It can be a mental exploration. Not to say that people would like to join me, but if the journey/story ends up being visual and interesting enough people may just want to jump on. I want to go all over and experience all different things, both in and out of my mind. It is not always going to be beautiful. In fact, bumps will undoubtedly be in the road. A good friend of mine once gave me a valuable lesson on how mentally to make even the negative things in life positive. My hope is that the sun will shine on us as we travel on our path. We are all one and my intention is to reach out to all of you with this sound.
Safe Travels
"Silvertone the band is a breath of fresh air musically, writing good honest songs. I'm glad someone is back to the basics of great songwriting. Silvertone's melodies are as contagious as their energy and they killed it at CBGB's this week. Keep an eye on them in the future! "-Mike Langella..

BAND BIO
Silvertone is a unique story. A short story, as it is still in its infancy; short lived, just a mere child with the attitude and strut of a well seasoned band. A potent blend of personality, vision and a lifelong search for the right outlet, led to the execution and creative hodgepodge that has become Silvertone. This authentic, engaging and captivating sound, is the story of a volcano of creativity brewing for years and years, that has finally erupted on stages in New York City and on their debut EP (Your Song For Me 2007).
Having lived his entire life with the ears of a musician, from early childhood to manhood, it’s remarkable that now at 32 Eric Silverman only began writing songs and learning the guitar 2 years ago. With a firm and natural understanding of sound and texture, as well as an advanced ear with the ability to absorb, Silverman is able to capture every influence and nuance that makes the right music work in the right way. The collection of music on Silvertone’s debut EP “Your Song For Me” and many others that are performed live by the group are a direct result of these abilities. The songs seem to just flow from Silverman as though they had been waiting there, brewing below the surface, waiting to be accessed. Each song is hookier then the next and you are guaranteed to find your self singing them as you attack you day.
Without any training, but a lifetime of experience, there is a classic, vintage, organic and original quality to the music. Within the desire to actually create this modernized urban cowboy rock explosion, the group sought to use real instruments, the best equipment, and the most authentic recording setting, rather than relying on the best of what digital technology has made available. Songs that began as ideas for Silverman had no choice but to find the right musicians to collaborate, arrange, and create the power of unifying sound with lyric, emotion with output. Guitarist David Lott, keyboardist Scott Burg, Bassist Matt Epstein, and drummer Matt Dean all brought their experience, their influences, their common goals and excitement for the music to create this sound; a 60’s soul, and a 70’s vibe with the growth and experience of the lives before them as well as the 80’s and 90’s which meld the Rolling Stones with CSNY and the Grateful Dead with Soundgarden and the Doors with Queen and Wilco wrapped around Beck inside Steely Dan is where Silvertone begins, and the rest is just an experience that awaits the live audience, the journey of their first EP, and the projects to come.

Sounds Like: ROCK & ROLL!!!!
