game over.

About Me

Anyone familiar with Swindon's musical history will recognise a few faces in this line up. Id seen these guys play out in the wilds of Oxfordshire at the infamous Radfest last year, but even knowing what was coming, the band still manage to impress you once they kick into action. Theirs is a style that is difficult to describe without resorting to clichés, it's a veritable feast of guitar riffs, and it's solid, tight and in your face…. It's simply kick arse rock and roll. The Armoury create music that struts and swaggers and feels as if it's picking a fight with the audience, it has an energy and an infectious quality that forces you to respond to it. Singer Gibbo, certainly knows how to play the part of rock star, fronting the band with style and panache, but like all good bands every one seems to be putting on a bit of a show, rock and roll is after all a theatre and this is a band that fully understands that. Its refreshing to hear a rock band that create melody and riff driven songs rather that having to resort to over the top drawn out solo's and other clever guitar tricks. Guitarists Ben and Asa manage to drive the songs at you by trading riffs and creating a big impact, its loud, its relentless, broken occasionally by tight drum breaks or a drop in the dynamic, it's a simple formula. It worked for the Stones, and it works here, the riffs the thing. Although the songs are original, you can hear a lot in them that seems familiar but whether this is stolen or the just have the ability to write songs that feel familiar from the outset it doesn't really matter. Imitation is the best form of flattery and even if they are repackaging all the good bits from rock history, why not, everyone else does it, but not always this well. If you need points of reference, The Black Crowes, MC5, The Stooges, Primal Scream and the Who all spring to mind, not a bad set of peers to have. Catch them live, join the party and to use one last cliché …kick out the jams.
