Born in Tampa, Florida, Amy Newberry, a.k.a. DJ Amyx, moved to San Diego, in 1995, to explore the entertainment industry (modeling/acting) and ended up in the dance music scene of Southern California. After throwing many successful parties, such as Summer Soulstice, and many more underground unmentionables, Amyx was gradually moving closer to becoming a dj.
In 1997, she received an impromptu DJ lesson from a friend, and the rest
is history.
With influences like Mixmaster Mike, DJ Icey, Doc Martin, Miguel Miggs, Mark Farina & Ztrip it's no wonder DJ Amyx spins such a kaleidoscope of
bass driven house, breaks, hip hop, mashups, 80's, lounge/downtempo and the list goes on.
Some of her performing credits include: KISS FM radio station (live) in The Netherlands, FNX radio station (live) Boston, Maximumrotation radio station (live) (LA), "The Conscious Party" (WMC, Miami, Fl. 2003), Spundae (LA), The Palace (LA), The Standard (LA), Privilege (Hollywood), The Viper Room (LA), Tunnel Top (San Francisco), Soulstice (San Diego, annual desert party), "Vinylholic" @ B3 (NY, NY), and the Sony E3 party (LA) 2005 where she shared the stage with Carmen Electra and the Pussy Cat Dolls. She has also shared the main stage with the likes of Mark Farina, Afro-Mystik, Doc Martin, D:Fuse, Jesse Sanders, Freaky Chakra, Q-Burns, Charlotte the Baroness, among others.
Around her neighborhood in Hollywood, you can find her spinning at Blowfish in the Back Room Lounge (9229 Sunset Blvd. Beverly Hills), every Friday night from 9-2am where she's been a resident dj since December 2004. And various other locations appearing singley or with the "all girl dj crew", B.O.T.S (bitches on the switches), that she founded herself in mid 2004.
