The English Channel was born and raised in rainy Greater Manchester and now lives in London, England. He makes music by programming stuff on his (not so) trusty old Roland 505 and then singing over the top. Sometimes he plays the melodica and harmonica as well. Using just one or two chords ("..its not laziness, it just forces me to be more imaginative with my voice") his songs possess a cyclical, hypnotic quality more associated with dance music than traditional pop and rock. He's been compared to loads of other 'northern' singers, such as Barny Sumner, Shaun Ryder, and even Morrissey..("it's just the way it comes out"...) but his influences extend way beyond the Pennines. This is EnglishChannelMusik, a multiple-personality disorder of house, progrock, digital-dub, European electro, and avant-dreampop. He'll tell you he likes listening to music by Arthur Russell, Neu!, Marshall Jefferson, Battles, and Steve Reich; but he also enjoys The Move. This explains both his pop-savvy melodies and the fact that some songs are a bit long. EP number 1 was released in July 2007 and has received great praise as well as plays on XFM(UK), StuBru(Brussels), and BuffetLibre(Barcelona).
