Better known as one of London's top cult clothing designers, Passarella Death Squad's music is the result of a diverse combination of influences such as PiL, The Velvet Underground and Cocteau Twins mixed with contemporary electronica such as LFO, DJ Hell and the work of label boss and ex-Micronaut, Issakidis.
Such a range of influence combined with the amazing skills of Death In Vegas man Tim Holmes has resulted in a hugely individual sound for this double a-side release of "Ima"/"Blackout".
Based around pounding, live kick drums and a pulsing orchestral stab, "Ima" showcases French vocalist Emilie Albisser's drawling style beautifully. The epic, touching vocals are the perfect juxtaposition to the austere production which makes for a seriously addictive track.
A similar, stripped back approach to the production is applied to "Blackout" but a dubbier style is adopted, with a slower groove and warmer sounds creating a much mellower feel but with equally impressive and thought provoking results.
Remixes on the package have been provided by oddball night owl producer Midnight Mike and Mute Records darlings Motor. The former's low-tempo electro take on "Ima" blends electro-pop and disco vibes in fine style while the latter's industrial, driving techno version of "Blackout" rounds of this release wonderfully by creating something faithful to the original, but for the dancefloor.
With a live act being prepared for late 2007, and an another amazing inaugural EP engineered again by Tim Holmes, it’s no wonder Passarella Death Squad are enjoying support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Tiga, Trevor Jackson and Ivan Smagghe. The hype machine finally has an act worthy of it’s mechanics…….
