About Me

Get your clock at CompleteMyspace.comelement noun1. One of the four substances: air, water, fire and earth believe to compose the physical universe.Much like the universe, success for MCs in the hip-hop industry require the basic components: air (versatility), water (flow & rhythm), fire (heart & ambition) and earth (character & longevity), all of which define the 24-year-old Chicago, IL native, Elementz (aka Chicago Defender).Born Jahbari Kimtoi Townsend, Elementz possesses the raw and unique skills rarely found in most up-and-coming and even established artists. Going back and forth between Chicago, IL and San Diego, CA, Jahbari (or Jah as his peers call him) constantly had to just to change. Growing up without any brothers and sisters really made it more of a challenge for me to be creative, Jah says. Not having people the same age as me forced me to grow up seeing how adults communicated more often than children. I was always around my mother, uncles, aunts and older cousins.By the young age of six, Jah was then introduced to the world of hip-hop. I remember the first rap song that I heard was Fight The Power by Public Enemy. That song really stuck out to me because both the lyrics and music were so energy driven. Since then I was really into Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, N.W.A., A Tribe Called Quest, Naughty by Nature, and then some. But it wasnt until later on in life that he felt it was only right for him to accomplish what his predecessors have accomplished. I knew I wanted to be an emcee by the 6th grade because I had so many songs memorized in my head from Regulate, Today Was a Good Day, Scenario, etc. and I wanted people to memorize my songs in the same manner.Writing his first song at the age of 11, the story behind the name Elementz didnt evolve until early years at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. One of the guys that hosted an open mic on campus gave me the name because I switched my style up every other rhyme he says. I basically learned from other MCs like Snoop, Nas, Wu-Tang, Outkast, Scarface, Busta Rhymes, Common, E-40, Boot Camp Click, Biggie, 2Pac, Gangstarr, Eminem, etc. These were some of artists that influenced me to be different in the way that I wrote raps and really inspired me to be the best at what I do.Planning to do so with the debut album, Da Khaos Theory due in the fall of 06, Elementz is well on his way to becoming the next big thing in hip-hop. To me, Chicago is the middle ground to everything that you hear in music today, and my ..1 goal is to be known as the dude that had no boundaries, but still kept it in order.
