A Breath of Fresh Air

About Me

Take a long deep breath . . . fill your lungs with Fresh Air . . . Exhale slowly until your mood relaxes and tension is released, as the fresh oxygen replenishes and revitalizes your entire being. In the midst of smog and pollution from industrialization, one breath of Fresh Air changes everything. One breath of E.S.T. will change the face of Hip-Hop, revitalizing it as one long, deep breath of Fresh Air does to one’s body. The very essence of life is expressed in one breath, the good times and bad times, comedy and tragedy. A mixture of joy, struggles, and sorrow held together by the glue of self-reflection as one breathes. E.S.T. uses vivid imagery and sharp humor to paint a panoramic picture of life in hip-hop culture. He is a lyricist whose words come from the heart and connect with his audience, making every breath count as if it where his last. The personality in his flow and liveliness in his lyrical cadence transform the energy in the atmosphere, revitalizing his listeners with a breath of Fresh Air. This Durham, NC resident’s ten-years rap career began to blossom as he begin to get exposure as a member of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s own Hip-Hop Nation, which helped to launch the careers of local artists such as Kaze, Sankofa, and Tyfu. Upon graduating, E.S.T. started teaching high school Social Studies in Durham, NC. This experience helped define E.S.T.’s destiny in hip-hop, giving him the passion to be the balance and the drive to be the breath of Fresh Air that is so desperately needed in hip-hop.To describe his style is to take Redman's energy, Talib Kweli's flow, Mos Def’s substance, with a gasp of self-reflection from A Tribe Called Quest and a sniff of Kanye West in one breath. . . now exhale . . . E.S.T. . . . the breath of Fresh Air in Hip-Hop.

Ignant Hip-Hop

Okay, so being in my mid to late twenties, I'm in that group of people that grew up listening to what we call "real" hip-hop.  When being gangsta wasn't a novelty nor was it a safe approach to ge...
