About Me

All right, I admit it. My previous About Me section was complete & utter bullshit ... my little blah, blah, blah, blah ... had it's point I guess (mainly allowing me to cop out from having to write anything) but it's over now. Although, I used to plan to form a b& in which all we ever sang was blah, blah, blah ... because that was all I ever heard when I went to clubs & such anyway.
So let's see, about me for real? I have a tendency to leave my spoon (or stir stick) in my coffee the whole time I'm drinking it, even though I must continuously use my pointer finger to keep it from hitting me in the face, & even though I am aware I do this & realize it would be easier to just remove it before drinking, I still do it anyway & I don't even really know why. Maybe it's the subtle joy of stirring or the knowledge that anytime my oral fixations get the best of me, I can whip that little stir stick out & chew ... could be either, could be both, could be something buried deeper in my desert psyche that has not yet surfaced in my conscious mind.
As you can see, I do have a tendency to analyze (some say over-analyze) even the smallest things, but I find it is these small things, these moments, these fixations & unexplainable idiosyncrasies that say more about us than anything else. They are what lies hidden behind what we consciously choose to portray, & in that sense are a much more of a glimpse into our authentic selves.
So, this means, you get to read my ramble about why I leave spoons & stir sticks in my coffee & I get to wonder why I don't just stick with blah, blah, blah ... If you got this far, I commend you & recommend you send me a message immediately informing me of your due diligence. I vow that I will then return your exertion of time & usage of brain power & read your About Me, in complete ... no skipping, skimming or skimping ... of course, this is only a recommendation, which you may also feel free to ignore.
Meanwhile, may you find some peace in the chaos, some wisdom in the whirlwind, & some wonder in the world.
If you're a true glutton for punishment, you can find a plethora (or a plethora in the making) of personal photography, pet peeves, poetry, pundits & political rants at http://sidewaysminds.blogspot.com/

Dutifully Docked is what I originally titled this photograph, though sometimes I think I should simply call it Democracy ... what do you think?
This is a place that hosts people's writing ... I haven't posted here in a bit, but I love the fact that it's called pathetic.org!

And then there's my latest writing site obsession:

And my favorite writing site: Edit Red (formerly Spoiled Ink)

You can always read my latest work on my Edit Red Writer Profile
And her's another one, that's just starting out but shows a lot of promise ...

I'd like to meet:

Undecided, open-minded, slightly bored, introspective individuals or anyone, really, who's got a bit of wisdom, wonder or general whimsy to throw my way ... lately, I've been into finding wisdom wherever I can ... in fortune cookies, from random words that jump out at me, snippets of conversation, bathroom reading ... whatever, wherever, whenever ... also questions: I am searching for questions much more so than answers, there are already too many people who think they know the answers (which I have found to be very dangerous), I am searching for people who are trying to find the questions (which I have found to be very difficult) ... when did we stop asking questions?

Leaves On Pavement: I love this juxtaposition of man made & natural elements ...

If my life were a movie this song would be in the soundtrack ... a couple R.E.M. songs would in fact ... including the end of the world as we know it ... cause the end of the world as I knew it was in the field in my back yard, a steep incline so defined by my friend Chris on one of our night walks through the tall grasses ... when I ended up taking off my sandals cause the slugs would get stuck between them and the soles of my feet and make it all slippery and it was better just to walk barefoot anyway ... both because you could actually feel where you were walking even if you couldn't see, and because if you stepped on a slug you could just scrape it off and not have it stuck in your shoe the whole time ... of course you could have just worn sneakers like Chris always did ... but where's the fun in that ... I mean really ...

Television:

This one's titled Edging Invisibility ... which has become a defining factor in all my work.
Focusing on those edges of invisibility, those things we try so hard not to acknowledge, spend so much time willfully ignoring, and so much money filling the holes we create within ourselves because we try to pretend they don't exist.
Those taboo subjects, those things we just don't bring up in polite conversation, those dark corners we'd rather leave unilluminated.
But, of course, I’m never satisfied with that.
"Disturb the comfortable, comfort the disturbed," a bit of wisdom I gleaned from a bumper sticker (bumper stickers can be very wise) and have applied to my life since I first saw it.
I find sometimes that these random bits of wisdom that I come upon in conversation, find on bumper stickers or batroom walls, or stumble on in some other totally unexpected way, are some of the truest things in my life.
Strange, huh?

I love this tree!
I saw it in the parking lot coming out of the Sense of Place Awards.
(At which Norm Davis received his Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the poetry scene.)
And which will be the cover for the next issue of the Haz Mat Literary Review.
Which you should all get, by the way, because
(besides the fact that it's a damn fine literary magazine that publishes a lot of poetry those more "academic" magazines tend to throw out becausethey are just too damn true)
my daughter's first poem to ever be published will be in the upcoming issue!
(Here is me, wishing I had started featuring and publishing my work at the ripe old age of 11 ... but still being insanely proud of her.)

Heroes:

I admire anyone with the guts (or stamina or level of insanity or whatever it takes) to get up in front of others and read your work or perform ...
