About Me

I have walked on fire. Literally. And I did it again! Yep, I'm on time #2! It's a healing and life changing experience. If you learn of a firewalk taking place in your area- sign up. Even if you just watch, it's worth it.

I am a 33 yr old, artist, wife, and mother. My shop- The Studio and Art Bar is located at 29 North Beaver Street in Downtown York, PA. That is my work and my play really- I make stuff and sell it! It's not a living yet, but I am working on it! I am really a "mixed media" artist at heart. I am not a draw or paint kind of chick- I like getting my hands INTO stuff- dirt, clay, yarn, fabric, glue, cement. But at the shop I concentrate on fibers- yarn/ fabric. I make mostly wearable art- my fave being Faerie Wings! I have lots of "fine art" ideas- but here in York that doesn't pay the bills, so I find myself only venturing into the fine art area about once a year! Mostly I make what will sell in the shop! AND THAT SUCKS!!
I love selling my wares (wears) at the May Day Fairie Festival at Spoutwood Farm (www.spoutwood.com) and the Maryland Faerie Festival (www.marylandfaeriefestival.org). I am on Staff at Spoutwood and have tons of fun planning the Fest with my Faerie Friends! Vending at Events is soo much fun, I hope to do MUCH more of it in the future!
I was on HGTV recently! I was featured on the show That's Clever in 2 segments- the first I made fiber cement Toadstool Garden Furniture and in the 2nd I made Faerie Wings! It was soooo much fun to do and really interesting to see how silly you really are on film! It's sort of a double edged sword- my name and brand were recognized on National TV BUT now I have someone copying my art- a lady copied my wing making technique and is SELLING them! ARGH! I wouldn't mind if she was making them for her personal use- but to sell them makes me mad! SO all artists out there- DO NOT COPY OTHERS WORK! Man that makes me mad! I can say I used to be the only wing maker of my kind and that mine are the original SINCE I INVENTED THE TECHNIQUE!!!
So I have 3 daughters. That is fun. One is 16 and that can drive you nuts. She currently has blue streaks in her naturally black hair! With my permission of course! She's a good kid in general, but 16 is really tough for both of us! The 2nd is 14. She is the drama queen. As if she is the one getting the least amount of attention. She gets the most attention- good and bad- because she demands it. She really doesn't know who she is and wants to find out where she fits in- a hard place to be. The littlest is 6. And she is as evil as she is cute- and she is REALLY cute so you know she is REALLY evil, too! She just has a curious nature- and gets into EVERYTHING! She doesn't like to listen either so I can safely say she takes after both of her parents.
I've been married for 14 years! Mostly happily for all 14! And happily now- so we are doing good! He's a great guy- that has brought many new ideas into my life! I can say there are many things I would not be doing now- or would have ever thought about had I not had my wonderful husband in my life! And it's a good thing he's here. He's on myspace as StrugglingOak and is on my friend list.

What Mythological Creature are you? (Cool Pics!)
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Faerie
Faerie: Aren't you a cute little flying person? Faeries are earth spirits. They live among each element completely hidden. They have cousins called Pixies. Pixies however, are very mischevious. They enjoy tormenting other creatures for fun. Little pranksters.. I hope you never meet one. Pixies have a bad reputation for finding a creature and clinging to them until death. Faeries can be somewhat close to a Pixie, but mostly they are loving, playful, and carry with them a child-like enthusiasm for life. Hide among the pedals of a Daisy, you are a Faerie.

My Interests

Art, Music, Earth, Environment, Books, Yarn!, Costumes, Haute Couture Clothes, Designing Clothes, Making Clothes- Everyday is a costume ball to me! Recycling, Volunteering, Faeries, Mythology, Kids, and FUN! I love to sing, too- whether you say I suck or am good- whatever...I like doing it so who cares! I also like to dance- just flail myself about really- or SALSA- Love the HOT, STEAMY SALSA dancing!

I'd like to meet:

Other artists, others that are into Faeries, Nature, Ecology, the environment- all that sort of thing.

Music:

I can ALMOST say that I like all music! I do not like Country or Rap- I don't like all top 40, but some I love, some I can appreciate, and some of it grates me the wrong way! (To mix my euphemisims)! But I can appreciate a good voice or good piece of music or lyric even if the style isn't something I would like.

Movies:

Ok typical trite response here- Lord of the Rings! How can you not love it! Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Narnia, Harry Potter- all of them-, The Corpse Bride- I cried at the end!, Franco Zephirelli's Romeo and Juliet, Pan's Labyrinth, you know the usual.

Television:

Ok, I admit it- I am an American Idol junkie! It reminds me of the old Fame/ Star Search Days! Some of my fave shows as a younger person! I always like the performing shows. I like to learn the back stories and hear how the singers grow as stars- it's a fun way to live a dream vicariously through others I guess. I "can" sing- but not well enough to have been a singer- so I just wish it would have been me on the stage. I cried when I heard Paris sing 2 yrs ago, and Melinda last year. The contest should be over before it has begun- she doesn't need American Idol to make it- they should give her a contract today!
Other than that I'm not sure why- but I love shows like Law and Order- esspecially the one with Mariska Hargitay- I'm sure I spelled that wrong- she is gorgeous- shes hard and soft at the same time. Really we have TV just so we can watch movies...but we do turn it and watch sometimes. After the kids are in bed, and I've taken my end of the day bath, I like to sit on the couch and watch. When STeve gets home form work, we watch Family Guy together. I fall asleep by the end of the show and he wakes me up when it's time for bed!

Books:

What haven't I read should be the topic of this box! ok So my faves are not in order- The Clan of the Cave Bear series (actually called the Earth's Children Series but most people wouldn't know that) by Jean Auel, Most of Anne Rice's old works including those as A N Roquelare- hubba hubba! The Mayfair Witches are my fave family! I LOVE Anais Nin. She has a truth in her diaries- wears her heart on her sleeve so to speak! Clive Barker's Fantasy works are incredible. Frankly his horror is terrifying and I can't read it BUT his fantasy is rich and detailed. Of course I LOVE all the classics- with the exception of The Grapes of Wrath- UGG how I hated that book! Maybe it made me look into humanity a bit too hard. Maybe it was the dry writing style- I don't know, but no 9th grader should ever be made to read it. Oh and If you are ignoring the recent "young adult" genre you are missing out. Some of the very best works of all time are modern young adult books! I have found anything by Garth Nix to be amazing. The Abhorsen trilogy- Sabriel, Lirael, and The Abhorsen - you just live the lives of these amazing young women. The Giver- author slips my mind at the moment- should be required reading in JR high. At first the book horrified me and I could not believe what I read- and then I knew it to be something that everyone should read. That author has written other books as well- all should be required reading in JR high! My fave poet is Sylvia Plath- and my oldest daughter is named for her mother- and the title of her most famous poem!
I guess you can see that I read voraciously and often. There are times when I have to limit my reading so that I can get other things done!
