About Me
The Chris Mulligan Band and associated projects are a smattering of exploratory musicians, who have been reared on a diverse array of music and pop culture throughout the experimental years of the late sixties, the purity of the seventies, the production and development of media in the eighties, the explosion of styles in the ninties, and the present day industry where anything goes.
Like many, Chris's song-writing eventually took shape out of imitation of what had inspired him in the first place, and after some empty pens and sore fingers, it could be put forth into the world as a notable musical entity in and of itself.
The band can do everything that's required: conform, inspire thought, expand into unpredictability, intensify, slow to a quiet contemplation... and the members understand the music is what must be satisfied, thus, "calling the shots" on any given night of performance.
The idea of what this band current is: a group of friends who happen to be musicians, coming together to support a catalog of songs that really to deserve to be out there.
Chris Mulligan picked up a guitar at a time in his life when his interests were turning a corner, and led him down the path of arts, exposing him to experiences in local music circles in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, with the likes of Danny Michel, Paul MacLeod, Shannon Lyon, Deanna Knight and the Fat Cats, Quiverleg, Dr.Wiggly, Mike Alviano, and many many more local talents. He quickly became a regular at local shows and began pursuing the craft of making songs.
Long time friend Scott Atkins, had already done much across the music industries, having gone to school for audio engineering, being intensely involved with competitive drum cores, and managing a local music shop. Chris had been teaching lessons in the shop, which set the stage for their meeting in 1998. The duo had a head start: Chris was working on a demo already, and Scott was to lend his rhythmic talents to the recording. Within days, a partnership, and in a sense, a seed for the band was formed.
Since this early collaboration, the duo has spent many creative hours tweaking ideas and inspiring one another to continue playing music, from a place that is genuine, musically interesting and filled with honest emotions out of everyday life.
Now employed in Montreal, Scott prides himself on being the Sonor Canada national Artist Representitve, and is definately built for the job. With determination, Chris and Scott will be collaborating despite the distance between them, and continue to produce music for the masses that are a breath of fresh air for those looking for a new sound.
Suffice to say there would be no "You Get What You Get" album, without the efforts of session bass player Darius McKinley and extraordinary session keyboardist Paul Stouffer. Many thanks to them for their contributions, and wonderful musical talents.
Ian Graham, worked at his studio (Small Dog Studio, Kitchener, ON) in an audio engineering role and consultant for the record, and has since joined Chris and Scott for future sonic entanglements.
The release of the record is on the horizon, and as the band gears up to market themselves in today's music business, it is sincerely hoped that your support and enjoyment of the material is one of the things they can build a long and healthy future on.
