ABOUT the human animal first made headlines in 2005 by graduating Connecticut College with a B.A. Degree in “Cultural Communications & Hip Hop Culture,” a self-designed interdisciplinary major which developed the first extensive curriculum dedicated to the understanding of Hip Hop Culture. By combining the fields of social and cultural anthropology, linguistics, and creative arts, Cording was able to form new theoretical frameworks of music and technology and in 2005 completed a comprehensive ethnographic dissertation of Hip Hop Culture.Rather than pursuing a Master’s degree in the field of anthropology, Cording continued his fieldwork in ethnomusicology and in 2006 founded [RE] EVOLUTION, an independent media network designed to maximize the social impact of emerging digital technologies. Set to launch in 2008, [RE] EVOLUTION is currently accepting applications and portfolios from today’s brightest thinkers, writers, and artists. If interested in submitting work or becoming a writer for [RE] EVOLUTION please contact [email protected].[RE] PRODUCTIONS is an independent production company under the [RE] EVOLUTION imprint. For information on music production and sound design contact [email protected]. "A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government." -Edward Abbey"The present insanity of the global arms race, if continued, will lead inevitably to a conflagration so great that Auschwitz will seem like a minor rehearsal." -Billy Graham"The point of public relations slogans like "Support Our Troops" is that they don't mean anything... That's the point of good propaganda. You want to creat a slogan that nobody's going to be against, and everybody's going to be for. Nobody knows what it means, because it doesn't mean anything. Its crucial value is that it diverts your attention from a question that does mean something: Do you support our policy? That's the one you're not allowed to talk about." -Noam Chomsky"To oppose the policies of a government does not mean you are against the country or the people that the government supposedly represents. Such opposition should be called what it really is: democracy, or democratic dissent, or having a critical perspective about what your leaders are doing. Either we have the right to democratic dissent and criticism of these policies or we all lie down and let the leader, the Fuhrer, do what is best, while we follow uncritically, and obey whatever he commands. That's just what the Germans did with Hitler, and look where it got them." -Michael Parenti"When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross" – Sinclair Lewis"A terrorist is someone who has a bomb but doesn't have an air force." -William Blum"Democracy is not about trust; it is about distrust. It is about accountability, exposure, open debate, critical challenge, and popular input and feedback from the citizenry. It is about responsible government. We have to get our fellow Americans to trust their leaders less and themselves more, trust their own questions and suspicions, and their own desire to know what is going on." -Michael Parenti"Media manipulation in the U.S. today is more efficient than it was in Nazi Germany, because here we have the pretense that we are getting all the information we want. That misconception prevents people from even looking for the truth." -Mark Crispin Miller"I myself feel that our country, for whose Constitution I fought in a just war, might as well have been invaded by Martians and body snatchers. Sometimes I wish it had been. What has happened, though, is that it has been taken over by means of the sleaziest, low-comedy, Keystone Cops-style coup d’etat imaginable. And those now in charge of the federal government are upper-crust C-students who know no history or geography, plus not-so-closeted white supremacists, aka 'Christians,' and plus, most frighteningly, psychopathic personalities, or 'PPs.'" - Kurt Vonnegut"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."-Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945 "Free and responsible government by popular consent just can't exist without an informed public." -Bill Moyers"The enormous gap between what US leaders do in the world and what Americans think their leaders are doing is one of the great propaganda accomplishments of the dominate political mythology." -Michael Parenti"We were not born critical of existing society. There was a moment in our lives (or a month, or a year) when certain facts appeared before us, startled us, and then caused us to question beliefs that were strongly fixed in our consciousness-embedded there by years of family prejudices, orthodox schooling, imbibing of newspapers, radio, and television." -Howard Zinn"The United States has only one party - the property party. It's the party of big corporations, the party of money. It has two right wings; one is Democrat and the other is Republican." -Gore Vidal"We have thrown away the most valuable asset we had -- the individual's right to oppose both flag and country when he believed them to be in the wrong. We have thrown it away; and with it, all that was really respectable about that grotesque and laughable word, Patriotism." -Howard Zinn"Politicians and the media have conspired to infantilize, to dumb down, the American public. At heart, politicians don't believe that Americans can handle complex truths, and the news media, especially television news, basically agrees." -Tom Fenton, CBS foreign correspondent"Exploitation is the essence of violence." -Gandhi"In the next stage of the civil-rights struggle, the true heroes will be those who focus inward as well as outward, who don't just make demands on the government but who demand discipline and responsibility from themselves and their children. Continuing to foster self-reliance and self-regard is just as important in combating racism in others." -Steven V. Roberts"The Root of War is Fear." -Thomas Merton"America has entered the age of the contingent or temporary worker, of the consultant and subcontractor, of the just-in-time work force-fluid, flexible, disposable. This is the future. Its message is this: You are on your own... The workers of the future will constantly have to sell their skills, changing and adapting constantly in order to survive in a ruthless global market. This is the new metaphysics of work. Companies are portable, workers are throwaway." -Lance Morrow"There is no reason to confuse television news with journalism." -Nora Ephron"The conversation of politics now is carried on in the vernacular of advertising. The big sell, the television sell, appears to be the only way to sell. Increasingly, and especially in Washington, how well one does on television has come to determine how well one does in life." -Michael Kelly"Slaves are generally expected to sing as well as to work." -Frederick Douglass"Human beings have an inalienable right to invent themselves; when that right is pre-empted, it is called brainwashing." -Germaine Greer"The reformer operates on parts where the revolutionist operates on wholes." -Horace M. Kallen"Most presidents are merely clerks of some real power which stands erect at their side and does its will by them." -Ralph Waldo Emerson"For the middle class, the police protect property, give directions, and help old ladies. For the urban poor, the police are those who arrest you." -Michael Harrington"The bonds of class are stronger than those of nationality." -Lord Acton"We suppress the child's curiosity (for example, there are questions one should not ask), and then when he lacks a natural interest in learning he is offered special coaching for his scholastic difficulties." -Alice Miller"If there is a State, there must necessarily be domination, and therefore slavery; a State without slavery, overt or concealed, is unthinkable - and that is why we are enemies of the State." -Mikhail Bakunin"Every increase of state authority must involve an immediate diminution of the liberty of each citizen." -Bertrand de Jouvenel"Everything now seems to be under federal control except the national debt and the budget." -Bob Goddard
