Sandy Foster

About Me

Instrumentation
Sandy may appear as solo, with duo, three piece or full band depending on performance requirements. Sandy Foster (vocals/keys) as band leader will always be there and more than likely will appear with piano, standup bass, guitar, and drums depending on the performance.
Biography
"she's got great control of her friendly, soul-filled voice, which she generally keeps pretty toned down and laid back. Her choice of music is fairly eclectic, ranging from classic standards to some mighty decent originals." Ray Arsenault, Ray's Reviews June 29, 2005
Influences include: Natalie Cole, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Harry Connick Jr., Sade, Eva Cassidy, Holly Cole Trio, Rogers/Hart, Michael Bublé, Diana Krall, A.C. Jobim.
Sandy says " Life is too short not to have fun and too long not to make a difference. Music should encourage, delight, motivate and console. There are so many great standards out there that are sweet, simple, elegant and a joy to perform.
I love the frivolity of early jazz writers who played with words, taking them to the nth degree of puns and I also love the heartwrenching ballads. A blues tune done well is a thing of beauty and Latin rhythms speak smoothly and softly...it's all good.
Within each performance, I aim to sing with focused abandon in as many styles as possible, to share originally written and standards that are meaningful and important to others. Music is about heart to heart communication - every performance should be a shared experience, memorable and thoroughly enjoyable."

Sounds Like:

Sade, Holly Cole, Eva Cassidy, Diana Krall, Norah Jones to be succint.... Here are some reviews that detail these comparisons....

...you will do well to add Sandy Foster’s Spruce It Up to your list of "must haves" for your Christmas music collection.….Foster stays within her range and this makes for a relaxing and enjoyable experience for the listener….She is easily in command of the vocals and in sync with the arrangements…..Grab an eggnog, cuddle up with your honey and relax to this wonderful CD. When you get to the last two tracks turn off all but the Christmas tree lights turn to your sweetheart and say, “I love you.” JOE MONTAGUE

...sultry, sexy, seductive and immediately captivating voice...sounds a lot like Sade throughout." Richard Amery

"Sandy Foster is a Canadian singer/songwriter, from Edmonton. She has a sound similar to Natalie Cole. Sandy Foster is amazing. She sings about everything from loneliness to happiness. Her jazz vocal skills will clearly make her a big star, as she knows how to hit the right notes. She shines on her original song Cranberry Jazz; all but three songs on the album were written by Sandy Foster herself. I strongly recommend this album for the jazz fanatic in your life." Kim Morgan, The Minds Eye

"Sandy Foster can be considered among the greats of modern Canadian jazz vocalists standing beside the likes of Holly Cole, Diane Krall and Molly Johnson even if her talents are just beginning to receive recognition. Not just a voice (and a gorgeous one at that), Sandy composes and writes all of her own music...." Scott D. Brown, www.fullspectrumottawa.com
