JOY

About Me

Joy is no stranger to singing. At the young age of ten, after only a year singing at church, she was appointed Lead Singer in the choir. Joy’s earliest musical influences were mainly gospel, which shines through her powerful vocal style. Her mother being a pastor at the local church and a very keen supporter of Joy’s vocal ability has played an incredibly strong part in Joy’s development as a talented and creative artist. After winning school talent competitions and achieving continuous excellence within her school and church choirs, she went on to sing in front of larger audiences. At sixteen she sang in front of a crowd of over two thousand people at a church conference. She wowed them.A year later in 2003, Joy won the annual talent show at her new college West Herts. Winning talent shows was now becoming part of Joy’s average year, and inspired her to keep at her singing. During the summer of that year, she was invited by small London based record label Lossol Entertainment (www.lossol.com) to perform a vocal showcase at the Watford Festival. With over a thousand in attendance, Joy went on to perform her first studio track which was met with great rapport. This summer was proving to be a busy one as she also entered Choice FM’s annual under 18 talent contest Rapology. With over a thousand entrants Joy, along with twenty others, managed to make it to the Finals. She performed alongside British talent such as Iceberg Slimm and Nathan. Although she didn’t win the contest, it did much for her confidence and growing popularity. In the winter of 2003 what was already proving to be a pivotal year in Joy’s budding career she entered the annual Urban Voices UK Competition (www.ukurbanvoice.com). She went on to win Regional and National Artist of the Year and National Gospel Artist of the Year. She was also nominated for Most Outstanding Artist. In 2004, Joy excelled all her expectations and won the Usher master class, where she won the chance to sing with Usher and five others. This was a great experience for Joy that taught her a lot of what it takes to work at the same level of the likes of Usher.Joy is currently working with producer Alex Blood and Diveno of Soul Alliance, with the aim of releasing her own material later this year. She is also working on collaborations with other UK outfits Rukus and Def 1, this girl is one to watch out for.
