About Me

You may ask, "Why the name Eighty-One?". Yes, Stephen Jackson and Jonathan Winstead were both born that same year, however, it means so much more! This simple name represents a journey of growth and change through their musical influence. Refusing to stand for anything, Eighty-One is on a mission to set the new standard of music with style and class. You won't turn the station! You won't press stop! After listening to Eighty-One, nothing else will even matter! Eighty-One is here to give back all the time you've wasted on listening to everything else. So just sit back and reminisce on how you felt when listening to the soulful songs of the past: How the songs were sang and how they were written. Those feelings will be resurrected when you experience the music of Eighty-One.Although country music has over-shadowed other genres in Nashville, Eighty-One is out to prove that Nashville is truly a "Music City"! With their heart felt lyrics and timeless compositions, Eighty-One will touch your soul with songs such as To Me and Just a Smile. They can take you to the Euro dance scene with the techno, bass-driven sound of Friday Night. And the clever, yet seductive, How Long, will leave you asking yourself, Why Dont We (Slow Dance). And don't think their music just sounds good recorded, wait 'til you see their live performance! Their live show confirms their place in history with their strong lyrics, electrifying vocals, and mesmerizing harmonies. Eighty-One has been seducing their audiences into believeing the hype their music is meant to create. Not only will their music leave you wanting more, but their classy, sexy, and seductive look will definitely set them apart from the rest.Eighty-One's debut album, Why Don't We, is a project that consist of 11 musically arranged songs that were written and arranged by the duo. However, the journey to a complete project wasn't always an easy one. They relied on other studios, producers, and engineers to give them the sound they were looking for. They soon realized that it wouldn't be done right, unless they did it themselves. So they invested in their own recording equipment and got to work. The knowledge they acquired over the years deffinitely came in handy when it came to recording themselves. But this time around, there was more freedom. They re-recorded some of their older material and started working on new songs. After a few of Eighty-One's newly recorded songs were heard, other local artist started to inquire about the production of the songs. This would ultimately be the beginning of Eighty-One's production company, One Staj(stage) Music Group. Afterall, Eighty-One wasn't the only artist looking for a unique sound, they just realized that they were the one's that could give that sound to themselves, as well as other artist.Preparing for the independent release of their first album, Why Don't We, Eighty-One is looking to spark the interest of record labels in a few different ways: Production has become a part of what Eighty-One stands for, not only for themselves, but for any artist looking for the sound that has become extremely rare in the industry, true R&B. However, it doesn't stop there! Pop and hip-hop are also a part of Eighty-One's arsenal of production weapons. As a matter of fact, a folk artist was their first project outside of their own material. This gave them a chance to expand their creativity. They also realized, the more of a variety, the better the chances are of getting heard. Eighty-One understands the magnitude of establishing industry credibility. So therefore, they are looking to produce and write songs for signed and unsigned artist. With the clientel list that they've built, they are also looking forward to expanding One Staj Music into a major record company. Afterall, Eighty-One's music is the driving force behind all of their music endeavors, they're just counting down until they are what the industry revolves around!
