About Me
SoulsTiedTightly was born out of many years of karaoke nights, Vet Bars, Poetry Readings, Slams, road trips, discussion, parks in the middle of the night (and the middle of the day) and midnight writing. Right now we are the product of two individuals who are passionate about music, writing, poetry and art. We are always interested in hiring serious musicians for gigs and collaborations. Please contact us. We have a long way to go, but we've both been artists our whole lives. Artists wear their work instead of wounds. And we hope to share ours with you.

ABOUT THE CURRENT BAND:
You may catch Bethany every now and then performing at the monthly poetry slam at Elliot's Revue, in Winston Salem, NC. She is a former member of the Winston Salem Poetry Slam Team.
Runt Speaks has been in various bands over the years, and met Bethany about 7 years ago. They played music for fun and then decided in 2005 to form SoulsTiedTightly, and began collaborating with their new and already existing original material. SoulsTiedTightly is an eclectic blend of folk, rock, spoken word poetry, and darker melodic opera.
WHAT ELSE YOU SAY??????
Hi, I'm Bethany. I'm a singer, songwriter, poet and novelist as well as the player of thrift store instruments like wooden bells and coffee cans. I first sang on stage in my dad's church at the age of five, and ever since music has been in my bones, engraved and stitched there like lightening. I'm a minister's kid and I'm severely A.D.D with undertones of certain times of anxiety and shyness and I'm a bit of a shut-in, so hopefully that explains some things. In 2003 I had the good luck to bum around with the Winston Salem, North Carolina poetry slam team. It was one of the best weeks of my life and poetry slam has shaped alot of my current musical work, but even before I've always wanted to meld the genres of spoken word with others such as opera, gothic, blues, and folk/punk. I self published a book of poems entitled "Flames and Shadows" in 2002 and am working on my second to shop around to actual publishers. My first novel is currently under construction as well when I'm not composing or trying to get my dayjob over with as quickly as possible. I also dabble in photography, watercolors, and a screenplay that's on hold, but those are mostly side projects.
I'm pretty much the only one who runs this page, my former guitarist and I have parted ways, but that's ok, I trust the universe. I've been collaberating/have plans to collaberate with some cool musicians and if you'd like to be one of them contact me.
Other than that I live life, love my guts out, read a hell of alot, breathe music and play with cats and puppies. I wholeheartedly believe being an artist saved my life. Is still saving it, every day I wake up and get on with it. Hopefully you'll like my offerings, and maybe I can be lucky enough to contribute to saving yours too.

About Sculpture Fruit Gut Words:"The language is fascinating, the content moving; the voice beautiful. It's not easy to keep such a gently firm grip on a listener for 6+ minutes, but she succeeds."-Richard Smith
"I have learned, as a rule of thumb, never to ask whether you can do something. Say, instead, that you are doing it. Then fasten your seat belt. The most remarkable things follow."
~Julia Cameron
Author - "The Artist's Way"
The individual has always had to struggle
to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe.
If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened.
But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
-Nietzsche
WATCH ONE OF MY PERFORMANCES: "OLD LOVE STORIES" BELOW:
'Come to the edge,' he said.
'It's too high,' they said.
'Come to the edge,' he said.
'We'll fall,' they said.
'Come to the edge,' he said.
And they did.
And he pushed them,
And they flew."
After a while
you learn the subtle difference
between holding a hand
and chaining a soul.
And you learn that love
doesn't mean leaning,
and that company doesn't always mean
security.
And you learn that kisses aren't contracts,
and presents aren't promises.
And you begin to accept your defeats
with your head high and
your eyes straight ahead,
with the grace of a woman or a man,
not the grief of a child.
And you learn to
build all your roads on today,
because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain
for plans,
and futures have a way
of falling down in mid-flight.
After a while you learn that even sunshine
can burn you if you ask for too much.
So you plant your own garden and
decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure,
and that you really are strong,
and that you really have worth.
And you learn, and you learn,
with every good-bye,
you learn.
