I have a song on this benefit CD (as Trance Communique, one of my other music projects):
Influences: Influences? Near death experiences, insomnia, driving around trying to find a parking space in San Francisco, paranoia, Sylvia Plath, dreams & nightmares, car accidents, anxiety, vegan food, not taking psych meds, Star Trek, bunnies, Pong, Enneagrams, Zen, phobias, love letters, cancer, The Moon, sex... oh, wait, you mean MUSICAL influences? OK. The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Christian Death, Kurt Cobain, The Cocteau Twins, Coil, Current 93, The Dandy Warhols, The Darling Buds, Kim Deal, Death In June, Elf Power, Ryan Griffiths, Richard Hell, Kristin Hersh, Pete Holmstrom, Arthur Lee, Love, Johnny Marr, Rose McDowall, My Bloody Valentine, Nature & Organisation, Anton Newcombe, Ride, Spiritualized, Strawberry Switchblade, The Swans, This Mortal Coil, David Tibet...
Sounds Like: Sounds like:
The soundtrack to a bad dream in which you're falling off a cliff, then you have a very rough landing on some sharp, slippery rocks, so you try to get a grip on the situation but all the rocks just keep sliding right out from under you and you just keep sliding down the cliff until you land, again, briefly, on a steep beach with more sharp, slippery rocks and you keep trying to claw your way back upwards, despite your frostbitten hands, but then you land squarely in the freezing, churning waves of the ocean and the undertow pulls you underwater repeatedly until you just keep breathing in more & more water and you finally cease to struggle and it is only then that you see the large, uprooted, waterlogged, yet still seaworthy spruce tree floating just out of reach, just out of reach.... and at this same moment, you look up suddenly and see the full moon glaring down and you realize how beautiful the night sky can be...
That's what I think my music sounds like. Some people have told me it reminds them of The Cocteau Twins. Hell, I don't know. You tell me. ;)
