One thing for sure, whether it is hard house, break beats,Jungle or progressive hard style it always has the DJ Self funk. What is the DJ Self funk you ask? "The best way to describe it is all these styles blended into one track! So if your into the mellow underground house music, ..don't bother picking up one of his tracks. Self is all about banging the hard & funky tracks.""It all started back in the early 80's in the middle of the roller skating rinks & break dancing battles!" says DJ Self. Self started back in the day recording & listening to DJ mix shows ( DJ Frank Ski ) to make copies for himself and his break dancing crew. He then evolved into spinning throughout high school doing house parties & dances. From there he slowly purchased his own studio equipment and started producing. His first release was a Miami Bass style song,
"The Street Racing Song", which talks about one of his favorite hobbies of building cars & drag racing.
"Way before Fast & the Furious was ever thought of!DJ Self went onto competing in DJ competitions in
Washington DC & South Beach Miami in the 90s and also doing some guest DJ appearances at some of the hot clubs in South Beach Miami. His next record deal came in 1995 producing a few freestyle tracks for Tazmania records. Then he moved onto producing Baltimore break beat tracks. In 1996, he went to his first Winter Music Conference with his partner Jeff C. where he met up with two major Chicago hard house producers, DJ Trajic and Rockin Duke, who influenced and started his hard house career. From there he started banging out the hard house and really enjoyed making this kind of music.Self gives much thanks to DJ Trajic. Just to name a few of the independent Chicago and Los Angeles hard house labels he produced tracks for was Jasperstone Records, Musik Factory, Abstract Music, Renegade, DMC , Dynamic Tracks, Pyramid Records, and Waxworks.Signing his first exclusive record deal with Bobby D @ Jasperstone Records was a beginning of his style of hard house with a touch of break beats. This opened the door for DJing in the Chicago & Texas clubs. This led to a following in the Texas break beat
scene where he met up with Latium Records, Latin One Stop Records, R2M Records where he began his next
exclusive record deal with Phusion Records ( R2M ). His career also included spinning on a Top 40 station, Z104, based out of Washington, DC. With his partner, DJ Fadi, they rocked the air waves on their own nightly mix show.
He has also produced some tracks on Nivek Records and released a hard house & break beat mixed CD with them. " DJ Self / Need for speed vol 1 "
Through out his career DJ Self has received numerous write ups in DMA magazine and DJ Times on many of his songs.Next was/is working with the great Break beat Labels in FL. Xquizit, EBM, Funk Lab, Kaleidoscope Records and others.DJ Self CD's "Ride With Me"/
