Steve began his musical journey at age 8. His first instrument being piano then progressing to guitar shortly thereafter. Composing his own music at age 13, he formed his first band at age 14, and began playing local clubs in 1983.In 91' Steve co founded the band "CRY BABY" dedicated strictly to original music. Steve was not only featured as Lead Vocalist & Guitarist, but also as the group's main Songwriter. The band began working with Wade Perry (Mean Greek Management), who was managing Whitney Houston at the time. They spent the next 2 years doing record industry showcases, and opening for acts such as WARRANT, and GARY RICHRATH (REO SPEEDWAGON).Early demo tapes recorded by the band had many local radio stations writing testaments to major record labels begging them to "sign" the band.On Dec 15, 1994, "CRY BABY" released a much anticipated debut album titled, "A Good Firm Musical Spanking," to rave reviews. The band was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album of 1995, and stirred recording contract interest with Atlantic Records & MCA Records. Unfortunately, the group disbanded in 1996.In 1997, Steve joined Hazleton rock group, KARTUNE which had also received a Grammy Nomination for their latest release "Don't Know Any Better". With KARTUNE, Steve put on yet another hat, Bass Guitar. In 2000, members of KARTUNE entered the studio as a surrogate band for guitarist/songwriter David Butler. The project was called NATIVE SON, and the CD released was called "Face The Future". Along with Butler, it featured KARTUNE members Tommy Bruno on lead vocals, Chris Lubeski on drums, and Steve Witner on bass guitar. In May 2004, Steve left KARTUNE to pursue other interests, including recording a new original progressive project (still in the works). Steve excitedly accepted the invitation to join forces with the progressive rock supergroup GRAND FUN ALLEY because it offered him the opportunity to play music that inspired him his whole life, as well as the chance to play with musicians he'd long admired. You may have also caught Steve performing with THE GENE MORRISON ALL STAR REVUE, in which steve played guitar, and was one of the featured vocalists.Steve also performs with 12/24 - A TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA RECREATION which gives him the opportunity to work with his wife Joelle (Vocals & Keyboards). In February of 2005, Steve rejoined KARTUNE and still works and perfromes with GRAND FUN ALLEY, in Steve's words, " I look forward to a GRAND FUN ALLEY show, as a child does for Christmas."In the latter half of 2005, Steve was invited to take on the role of keyboardist for ONE NIGHT STAND. This very special group of musicians is very dear to Steve's heart, as its causes help people to remain positive in the face of adversity, and donates proceeds of CD sales to the Envita Medical Center , who is on the leadng edge of new lines of cancer research.
