About Me

First ... A word to those who ask to be added to Donny Dee's "My Space,"and to whom we request an add from. This medium is an amazing networking tool as we all know. What an amazing way to share music interests with so many people in so many places. That said, if you added Donny after a request, thank you for helping us to network with you and those on your friends list. This gets Donny's musical interests to as many people as possible. It you sent us a request to add you, thank you also, because as we add you, it networks him to others on your friends list ... and heck, what are friends for?

From Northeast Pennsylvania, Donny Dee (DeBias), began his musical journey at the early age of five after seeing the legendary Buddy Rich on a television program. Seeing Buddy play planted the seeds in him that would eventually bring him to be a powerful force behind the kit.

Being completely self-taught, Donny possesses amazing rudimental and independent ability on the kit. In his words, "I had to be able to play and read notation as good as the drummers I listened and looked up to ... and that required many painstaking hours of 'seemingly' boring practice routines."

Donny holds an A.A.S degree in broadcast communications specializing in audio and video production and was actively involved until summer 2006 in the Broadcast/Music Recording Department at Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke Pennsylvania. He's also well versed in lighting and video production, live sound production, and recording production.

The repertoire of music Donny has and continues to perform includes funk, rock, jazz-rock, classical rock, alternative rock, progressive rock/metal, R & B, Blues, Top 40, and the list goes on. He continues to perform in many musical situations both live and studio.

Donny has performed with, engineered for, opened shows for, and performed in shows with groups such as Grand-Fun-Alley, Metropolis (Dream Theater Tribute), Veiled Exposure, Haji, Island, Sleeper, Peach, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Who's "TOMMY" , Jay And The Americans, Steppenwolf, Ken Hensley, Leslie West & Mountain, Pat Benatar, Beth Hart, Marty Stuart, Locomotion, Uriah Heep, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Chubby Checker, Classics Four, Diesel, Donny Iris, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and many more.

"I think that the simplest thing would be; Expect the best. And even when people try to shoot holes in you and shoot holes in what you might be hoping for, don't listen to them. Don't allow that kind of thought into your head. Just expect the best, and be diligent about getting there. Because you can."

On another note ...

Normally I would not add videos to my space, however, this video is an amazing work of video editing and is quite funny...Drummers or not you will enjoy this...

Cheers! Donny Dee

My Interests

Influences:

We're all influenced in so many ways by just about every drummer we come into contact with. My Earliest influences include ... the legendary "Buddy Rich" and naturally "Ringo Starr".

While I never had the opportunity to actually take drum lessons, there is one drummer that I owe a debt of thanks to. Nicky Larocca. Nicky is among the few great drummers to come out of Hazleton. He showed me, through his playing, how important it is to read music and also how important it was to "GROOVE". A monster player but a very humble guy. He remains a positive influence to me and I want to thank him for that.

Other influences include, Simon Phillips, the late great Jeff Porcaro, Terry Bozzio, Gene Krupa, Phil Collins, Neil Peart, and Don Brewer (who I believe was probably the biggest influence in my drumming style. Too many more to list.

Yes, Genesis, Kansas, Rush, Grand Funk, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Toto to list a few of the classic/progressive groups that have been a big influence to me. Some current groups that I feel are great groups ... Dream Theater, Spocks Beard, Porcupine Tree, The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Nigthwish, Lacuna Coil, and many others.
