About Me

My name is Matt D. Chouinard. I was born and raised in Nashua NH. Since the Christmas of '88 when I got my first guitar, I have played everything from surf instrumental, Sludge metal, and hendrix style blues. I first started playing in a metal band in High School-Ruthless Aggression. After college I started writing songs on the acoustic in the fall of '01, when after a year and a half of failed a tempts to start up a blues band, I saw Tori Amos play on Craig Kilborn. It was then I relized that I could do it all myself, guitar AND vocals. After countless open mics throughout the next 14 months I took a trip to Florida. I found the scene was much better than the one in the granite state, and moved to the space coast in August of '03 in hopes of finding a wider range of places to play out. And not 2 months after moving I met up with my friend Horton, my former band mate in my former metal band-Hearse Shifter. I played and yelled louder than a Motherf--ker, and it was great. But circumstances being what they may, we broke up. Fast Foward to March of '05, knockin' back a couple cold ones I ran into Mark Benedix. I asked him if he knew how to play any surf instrumentals. Needless to say over the next couple of weeks, at the Wet Spot and Oasis open mics we(Mark, Brian Keyser, and of course yours truly on the over reverbed speed pickin' surf guitar). After a couple months a Hearse Shifter reunion came and went over the fall of '05. After the second ineviteable break up, I saw it as an opertune time to start back up on my acoustic(i.e., my main thing) In January of '06 I recorded Asylum, a song that had writen 2 years before about a GMC-Pontiac-Buick dealership I worked in New Hampshire.
