Alex Sant’Anna, an artist from Sergipe born at Bahia, brings at his first disc – “Aplausos Mudos Vaias Amplificadas†– a reading with a lot of beat of the popular Brazilian music. The intention is to make music from Brasil, but not tied to any kind of source of Brazilian music. Therefore, it is possible to open the potentialities of a renewed anthropophagy. From torn samba till London guitars. From the “tomzeneano†kind of song till the eletroclash of New York. A good example of this is the special baião (kind of song) called “Poesia de Barroâ€. This is a contemporary version of the Brazilian moonlights – music from the country, from the artist Luiz Gonzaga: peripheral-urban, of the samba artists of Rio de Janeiro. But also a demystified version, proper of the post-modernity. “My poetry is made of clay, but my sound of steelâ€, says the lyrics and maybe is the best definition of Alex Sant’Anna’s work.
