ADVENTURES IN IMPROVISED MUSIC

About Me

We are the Improvised Music Collective – five passionate lovers of improvised music in all its diversity. We host a weekly 90 minute radio program devoted to improvised music – NOW’S THE TIME – on CKCU-FM 93.1 (in the Ottawa region) and on www.ckcufm.com on the world wide web on Thursday nights from 8:30 to 10:00pm est. We play the best of improvised music from around the world and recorded over the last 100 years. The unifying force of this program is that we play the music we LOVE. We present timely programming that reflects relevent activities in the world of improvised music (say, the death of a venerable giant of jazz, upcoming music festivals, etc.). The IMC endeavours to present intelligent and entertaining programming which is both timeless and current. We’ll still offer up our dynamic group shows from time to time but we intend to also include new features such as a NOW’S THE TIME episode every couple of months devoted entirely to improvising artists we discover on MYSPACE . We pride ourselves in delivering each week our commitment to context, insightful commentary, artist interviews and documentaries that enrich the listening experience. As always, our boundaries are our imaginations. So, be prepared for “the sound of surprise”. We welcome listener feedback. Check it out! We’re sure you’ll love what we play, too!

Any improvising artist/group/ensemble wishing to submit recordings for airplay on NOW'S THE TIME may send CDs to: Now's The Time
