Writing. Observing the world and its people. The way those people think. The reasons people think they think what they think. The sound of wind rushing through trees. The smell of coffee in the morning. The effect of rushing wind through trees and coffee in the morning on the way people think. And writing.
Like-minded people-- writers who teach, teachers who write, readers who think, thinkers who read... People who aren't afraid to share their comments, opinions and advice... People who can make me laugh. I'm looking for friends. It's a term you hear bandied about a lot on this website, and I've been told more than once in my life that my definition of the word is unrealistic... But I would like to think of myself as more than a number in a "friend tally," and if you're on the list here, you'll be more than a number to me.I would also love to meet an agent interested in representing my first novel, NO MATTER WHAT.
I listen to a variety, although being a seventies' girl, I have a strong preference for the classic rock of that decade.
GWTW, The Big Chill, The Lion King, My Best Friend's Wedding, Singin' in the Rain, Finding Forrester, The Spitfire Grill, V for Vendetta, In and Out, Mr. Holland's Opus, Crash, Second Hand Lions, Capote, and Ratatouille.
"Television is very educational. Every time somebody turns one on, I go into the library and read a good book." ~Groucho Marx
My favorite book is the dictionary. Otherwise, I tend to choose authors rather than titles, although I peruse the recent releases for "new favorites" all the time. I have always said if I could write like anyone, I would choose Pat Conroy. The man has a command of the craft I strive for. First, let me give a shout to MySpace friends I have read and enjoyed: Adrienne Brodeur, Julia Holden, Laura Benedict, M. Apostolina, Pinckney Benedict, Judy Merrill Larsen, Melanie Lynne Hauser, Ronlyn Dominguez, Jen Lancaster, Jennifer Vandever, Emily Giffin, Zoe Rice, J.A. Konrath, Sarah Mlynowski, Jenny Gardiner, and Cora Zane. Many others of you are in the TBR stack! Among a multitude of other favorites are: TKAM, GWTW, Shakespeare, Steinbeck, Hemingway, Herman Wouk, Anne Rivers Siddons, Michael Chabon, Jennifer Crusie, Michael Malone, Dorothea Benton Frank, John Irving, Jennifer Weiner, Richard Adams, Lorna Landvik, Mary Kay Andrews... lots of styles, lots of genres. It's all about story. What I choose at any given moment depends on my mood-- which in these perimenopausal days is likely to change at any given moment, dammit! Is that all right with you? You got a problem with that???
People who go a step above and beyond what is required or expected.
