KOSINE ON DA BEAT:

Dreaming, But Never Sleeping How a Chicago Music Producer is Giving the World a Wake-Up Call

By J. Diamond Weathersby of Diamond’s GLYSYN Enterprises, Inc. and Da Internz, Inc.

Teeming with tenacity and fizzling with fastidiousness, 23-year-old Chicago producer Marcos Palacios has not been getting much sleep lately. Instead, the recent college graduate has been staying up looping, mixing and sampling his way into both the music industry and the collegiate classroom.

Known respectably as “Kosine On Da Beat” on the music scene, the trained pianist, saxophonist and drummer is at home in a place where many people are utterly clueless: the recording studio. Kosine has crafted countless tracks for artists in his hometown, as well as for such notables as R. Kelly, Static, Lil Wayne, Eastwood, Field Mob, Yung Berg, Glenn Lewis, Farnsworth Bentley, hip hop newcomers The Board Bangers, and rap legend The Notorious B.I.G.

Palacios is also Co-Founder of Da Internz, Inc. – a triple threat music business/multi-media enterprise specializing in music production, urban marketing and artist management. Da Internz, Inc. is committed to providing consumers with quality entertainment and access to premier music performances and social affairs in and around the City of Chicago.

As a producer, Kosine On Da Beat is admittedly passionate and relentlessly exacting, exhibiting staunch susceptibility to every sound, chord, rhythm, tone and pitch. As a person, Marcos Palacios possesses an inimitable combination of easily penetrable poise and virtually imperceptible vulnerability, especially since losing the love of his life in 2003: his mother.

After completing his sophomore year at Florida A&M University, Palacios returned home to Broadview, Illinois – a small suburb nestled in the Western outskirts of Chicago – upon learning that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer. While Palacios was not interested in finishing school once he returned home because he was making money by producing beats for local artists, his mother made her only child promise to complete his degree. In fulfillment of that promise, he enrolled at Columbia College Chicago just one day before his mother’s death in September 2003. After delivering a poignant poem in honor of his late single mother, Palacios graduated from the nation’s premier visual, media, performing and communication arts college on May 14, 2006, Mother’s Day.

As a Columbia student, Palacios was president of Chicago’s city-wide chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. – a well-known, historically African American fraternity committed to community service and social advancement. In addition to being featured in the college’s newspaper –The Columbia Chronicle – Kosine was also one of few students chosen to participate in the college’s Semester in LA program – the only five-week academic session in the country in which music, television and film students engage in research, work on independent projects and participate in discussions with industry professionals on the CBS Lot in Studio City, California.

Out of all his accomplishments, Palacios is most proud to be returning to his alma mater in Fall 2006, this time as a professor for a course of which he is the sole creator and mastermind – “Producing Recorded Music: Hip Hop Beat Making..” Palacios developed the class in hopes of helping equip students with skill-sets that will enhance their knowledge of music and hone their craft as producers.

“Sleep [ain’t] really sleep when you’re constantly dreaming of waking up the world,” says Kosine, also a musician at his church.

Kosine is intent on fusing his passion for music with a commitment to enhancing the human experience through education, waking up both the music and education worlds one beat at a time.
