Lamar Edwards commonly known as Mars, is a 24-year old up and coming music producer, singer-songwriter. With ranging influences from the impeccable musical arrangements of Quincy Jones to the gritty gospel-infused vocals of Ron Isley, he, along with his partner Larrance Dopson, members of the west coast movement “1500 or Nothin,†are prepared to place their own musical imprint on the hip hop and R&B world. In the early stages of his music career, Mars was blessed to collaborate and produce for some of the major hip hop and R&B artists of this day and age including Snoop Dogg, Tyrese Gibson, Mac-10, and Ghostface Killah among others. Through working with multi-platinum producer Just Blaze, Mars in 2006 went on to play the organ and bass on Jay-Z’s hit single “Show Me What You Got,†which was also featured as a score on a Super Bowl Budweiser commercial. During the same year, he also played organ and piano on the single “Why You Hate The Game,†released on The Game’s 2006 album “Doctor’s Advocate.†As 2007 approached, Mars continued to gain momentum and a growing reputation in the world of hip-hop. As a result, he was approached by Kanye West to play the keys for his 2007 hit single “Stronger,†which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Even though his career to this point was heavily favored towards hip hop, his diverse qualities to produce multiple genres could not be ignored and the outcome was an opportunity to co-produce “Take You Down†on Chris Brown’s 2007 release “Exclusive.â€
After years of collaborating with the likes of Just Blaze, Brian Michael Cox, and the Underdogs to name a few, Mars has recently begun to receive his own self-deserved acclaim for his signature chord progressions. In Spring of 2008, Mars and Larrance co-produced the Game’s highly anticipated release LAX single “Dope Boys†featuring Travis Barker incorporating their distinct rhythmic style, synth-based beats, with a touch of futuristic effects. Further, he collaborated on the hit single “Pain†featuring Keisha Cole utilizing his trademark chord progressions with multiple string arrangements. “I play music from the heart and put all my feelings behind every note.†states Lamar Edwards.
With such a diverse group of talented musicians, he and “1500 or Nothin†members have also showcased their versatility by serving as tour support for multiple artists such as T.I., Diddy, David Banner, Snoop Dogg, Anthony Hamilton, and Musiq among others. “1500 or Nothin†is currently on tour with multi-platinum artist Lupe Fiasco. Despite his numerous musical achievements, Mars is a successful entrepreneur. He owns a production company entitled SMASH FACTORY with multi platinum artist T.I. and also is in the initial stages of his television show “Life on Mars,†due to air in the year of 2009.
