About Me
"Every real success story in hip hop comes down to the same thing: someone who finds the will, focus, and drive to achieve." - Kevin Liles
Gifted. Articulate. Confident. These are just a few words that describe the valuable attributes of one of our generation's next music executives - Eddie Blackmon. Not only is Eddie a man of style and distinction, he is a representative of the current influx of young, influential, and imminent ultra successful entertainment industry executives.Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Eddie received his B.A. in Communication and Sociology from Arizona State University. While completing his undergraduate studies Eddie occupied many leadership capacities as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He served as the local area chapter President, on the Western Regional Board of Directors, and as the National President's Undergraduate Executive Operating Assistant - making history in Kappa Alpha Psi as the first person to ever serve in this capacity. Upon receiving his degree in 2003, Eddie relocated to New York City to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. As do most when they arrive in New York with dreams of becoming successful, Eddie fulfilled internship duties at several record labels during the day and worked as a bartender/ waiter at night. Eddie’s willful spontaneity positioned himself to be frequently recruited by the music business's top executive branch. Ron Gillyard, former President of
Black Music at Interscope/ Geffen/ A&M, and Lisa Ellis, Executive Vice President of the Sony Music Label Group, are the most recent luminaries to have benefited from Eddie's commendable work.Eddie’s hard work and perseverance did not go unnoticed. In December of 2004 he was given the opportunity to intern for Donda West, Chief Operating Officer of Grammy award-winning artist and producer Kanye West's record label, Getting Out Our Dreams/ G.O.O.D. Music which was a joint venture with Sony BMG and home to such notable artists as John Legend and Common. In April of 2005 he was hired as an Executive Assistant to John Monopoly, President of the label. As a result of his dedication and proven credibility, Eddie was elevated to the position of Director of Marketing and Operations in September of 2005 where he oversaw the projects of the labels new artists Consequence, GLC, Fonzworth Bentley and Sa-Ra. This promotion came after Kanye's recognition of the respect Eddie garnered from other industry executives and his personal observation that the always-charismatic Eddie possessed a creative mind with a unique and innate talent to not only inspire new visions for the label, but to execute those ideas and plans with precision and greatness. In October of 2006, Eddie transitioned into the role Director of Marketing for Hustle Period Entertainment; a media conglomerate with divisions including artist and sports management, a record label, marketing and a nightclub. Eddie will now oversee the forthcoming projects from Shawnna, GLC, Really Doe, Slim the Mobster, Getty Boy, and Naledge.Eddie's corporate savvy, creative ingenuity, and personable likeability are the perfect factors for the equation of success. He’s focused. He’s driven. He’s capable. He’s next.
