Bart - Philly Trumpet Player

'Pick up your axe and fight like a farmer' - JMH

About Me

I recently played on a Radiohead remix by Philly artist Tim Motzer. Tim took Thom Yorke's vocal and completely reinvented the tune. I added a bunch of weird trumpet noises and "effects." It's kinda hard to differentiate between electronic and acoustic sounds - but if you hear something that sounds like whales mating or "ffffffffttt" sounds, that's me. Please give a listen and give the track a "vote." I think Tim did an awesome job - maybe blasphemous, but I dig this track more than the original:
UK-born trumpet player, Bart Miltenberger, whose playing has been called "impressive" by JazzTimes magazine, is a lyrical and melodic player with a warm and beautiful trumpet sound. In addition to his own group, The Chance Trio (www.thechancetrio.com), Bart regularly performs with Bobby Zankel and the Warriors of the Wonderful Sound, Matt Davis Aerial Photograph, and Tim Motzer's Nucultures. He has also performed with Sonic Liberation Front and the Bart Miltenberger Quartet featuring trumpet, organ, guitar, and drums.
In August of 2004 and 2005, Bart was invited by world-renowned trumpet star and composer Dave Douglas to perform in Trumpet Nation under the baton of the legendary conductionist Butch Morris, as part of the Festival of New Trumpet Music. Bart and his group The Chance Trio were a featured act in the 2006 Festival of New Trumpet Music. In June of 2004 Bart performed with the Rotterdam Chamber Orchestra in the Amsterdam world premiere of the opera, Call Me Ishmael. Bart has also performed and/or recorded with such musicians and bands as: Fathead, Edge City Collective, G-Love and Special Sauce, John Legend, The Digable Planets, Pauline Oliveros, Odean Pope, Dave Liebman, Tyrone Brown, Farid Barron, Tom Lawton, John Swana, Tim Motzer, Xande Cruz, and DJ Phillip Charles.
Bart studied for three intense years with the Maestro Dennis Sandole (best known as John Coltrane's teacher) and was an American Composers Forum grant winner in 2003. Bart was a co-founder and co-presenter of Collective Voices Festivals IIV (2000-2003). In addition, Bart is a member of Bugles Across America since 2000 - performing TAPS at military funerals. My Interests

Music:

Band Website: thechancetrio.com
Band Members: I play in three of Philly's most exciting and creative bands: The Chance Trio; Aerial Photograph; and Bobby Zankel and the Warriors of the Wonderful Sound. I also do freelance jazz, rock, wedding, and church gigs.
Influences: I am influenced by all kinds of music, by friends and family, and by life itself. I love Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles. I dig all trumpet players, but my favorites are probably Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, Lester Bowie, and Dave Douglas, although I could fit Woody Shaw, Kenny Dorham, and Ron Miles in that list as well.
I'm passionate about Bob Dylan, Gil Evans, Sonny Rollins, Radiohead, Stevie Wonder, Chopin, and Duke Ellington and I love Blues and folk music from around the world. I also love good food and a good beer. In my fridge right now is Saranac Trail Mix - good stuff.
What I've been listening to the last few days:
Ray Charles - Complete Atlantic Recordings 1952-1959
Buck Clayton - Complete CBS Buck Clayton Jam Sessions (Mosaic)
Woody Shaw - Stepping Stone (Live at the Vanguard)
I also listen just about every week to the NPR radio show "American Routes" hosted by Nick Spitzer: http://www.americanroutes.org/. This show is ridiculously good and I learn something new each week!
Another great listen is gtownradio.com especially the Lucky Old Souls show hosted by Feldie - old jazz, soul, R&B. The real deal! Tuesdays 2-4pm EST.
Sounds Like: Hopefully I sound like myself. I try to bring my best to whatever situation I'm in.
