Douglas Kent

He was born and raised in Irving, Texas, but for the past 5 years Douglas Kent has been living in Austin. He first moved to Austin on scholarship to pursue a music degree from the University of Texas, but it didn't take long for Douglas to realize that tuxedos and operas weren't for him. Rather, he found his calling amidst the twang of smoke filled honky-tonks. "I've always admired country music for it's simplistic passion," says Kent, and no one does this better than him. Douglas has an amazing knack for making the typically mundane magical. For the majority of his life, Kent's obsession has been playing gitar and writing songs. He picked up his first guitar at the age of twelve and the songs soon came flowing. Playing in several different rack bands throughout his life, Douglas found himself frustrated witht the lack of creativity involved with playing mainstream cover songs. Kent was born with an itch to write original music. Now at the age of 24 he has fully embraced that calling, and is well on his way to becoming a world class songwriter -- even having been compared to such legends as John Prine and Jimmy Dale Gilmore. With an upbringing flooded with folk, rock-n-roll, and even MTV, Douglas brings his own unique style to the emerging Americana genre. He sings with a passion and clarity of depth that is little seen in today's country music, and even his unforgettable "party anthems" leave no question of forethought and expressed life experience. Years of relentless practice and the patience to allow for personal growth have provided Douglas with the necessary skills to captivate his audiences with each and every song. Now with several years of playing solo acoustc shows at such notalbe venues as the Cactus Cafe, Kent's newly formed band is primed and ready for the big time. Having become a mainstay at local honky-tonk, The Poodle Dog Lounge, the band has begun to make quite a name for themselves in the Austin music scene. The full band shows are energetic and fun, and, of course, every songs is great for dancing. Douglas Kent is well on his way, and whether it is a solo show or with a full band, he is not to be missed.
