We'd like to meet open-minded, creative, intelligent, funny, charismatic, fun-to-be-with, quirky, entertaining, obnoxiously beautiful people.
Just call CARRIE (the beautiful, curvy, smart brunette with the big lips,)
EMILY Johnie Goudie's Cuban cousin with the amazing...smile,
or Brooke who acts sweet but has a mind like a steel trap and verbal barbs to match,
and our new trio of apprentices, Johanna, Kat, and Sara.
Call us at: 512. 447.2888.
Or email us at: [email protected]
or fax us at: 512.428.9881
Then come visit us at:
1204 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas, USA, and meet us in person. See what all the fuss is about.
We are proud of our clients. Some are amazing booking agents, like ROGGIE BAER ELM of RAJIWORLD
Quite a few are great musicians with great CD's.
some are on big record labels, some are on small record labels, and some have Pro-Tools at home. All of the music we sell comes from our clients.
Our salon space is convertible, allowing us to give them, and us, lots of opportunity to show off.
We LOVE our movie makers. We especially love WERNER CAMPBELL for getting his documentary about the beginning of the Texas Roller Derby "HELL ON WHEELS" finished in spite of imitations, without selling out our giving in.
We love ANDREW SHAPTER for following his dream and giving up shooting still photography to shoot a documentary. We're talking about, of course, that great film "BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES" Dies."
We give great image advice to performers and to anyone who asks (even if you don't ask but need to know, actually).
We specialize in "Diva" hair and make-up.
We LOVE special events. We do weddings, parties, photoshoots, fashion shows, music videos, T.V. appearances, and some movies if you beg us and we don't have to work on extras.
We are experts on the art of television hair and make-up
and we have even made a few appearances ourselves. We do AMBUSH MAKE-OVER'S, THE MAKE-OVER STORY, and were guests on Austin All-stars of Business.
We have a small selection of books for our lovely clients to read while they are visiting us, like our special book on curly hair
and "I'm With The Band" by MISS PAMELA DES BARRES.
We even carry several for you to buy if you couldn't finish while you were here.
IF you need a reading assignment, just ask DEBORAH. She has her own personal (and informal) book club.
Her current favorites are DAVID LYNCH'S new book on creativity called "CATCHING the BIG FISH," the must-read business bestseller "THE TIPPING POINT," and "THE WESTERN GUIDE to FENG SHUI."
Of course we carry all of the magazines you saw the last time you were in the grocery store but had too much class to put in your cart.
All the clothing we carry is unique, hand made one-of-a-kind clothing.
We love and support our local independent designers: They are our true heroes.
We love (and carry their things in our store for you to buy):
CHIA
RUBY PEARL,
AMY BARBER for SWEET TOOTH,
MISS PAMELA DES BARRES,
(we carry signed copies of her book "I'm with the Band
and have her regular writing workshops)
CARRISA HOOP with FLORA AND FAUNA, our floral designer/wedding consultant
PHOTOGRAPHERS
Right now, we love each of our favorite photographers for different reasons:
TODD V. WOLFSON
for knowing how to find any woman's best angle, and for being quirky and creative.
FABRIZIO
for staying in Austin when he could work in Milan.
MARY BRUTON
for shooting such pretty work, and for getting the best out of normally skittish subjects.
DEBORAH PEACOCK
for instinctively knowing how to shoot art and work with artists
MICHAEL GIORDANO
for staying in San Antonio when he could still be shooting in Milan
PAINTERS
We love our local, soon-to-be-well known artists and their big, colorful paintings.
Right now we represent:
JESUS MONSAVAIUS
(amazing conceptual artist, live painter, just back from Brazil)
TYSON COLE
(master sushi chef/owner of the world-renowned UCHI,)
ANA FUENTES
(famous for her haunting paintings of girls, and one of the most well-respected artists to come out of Mexico in the last few years)
and DEBORAH ALYS CARTER
(our owner)
You can come in and get your hair done and really spend some time art, instead of rushing through, like you sometimes do in other small galleries.
All of the art on our walls changes regularly, and all of it is for sale.
We even ship.***
NEIGHBORS
To the right of us as you stand at our pink door, you see:
BLACKMAIL
voted "Best Windows" so often in The AUSTIN CHRONICLE
they should give them a HALL of FAME AWARD and retire it.
Amazing selection of unique black clothing for men and women, cowboy boots, and now
VIVID
right next door. You can walk through the walls and Voila!
Just like the Wizard of Oz! Color!
GAIL CHOVAN
(designed for years in Paris if you will) and
EVAN VOYLES
(masterful neon artist) own both stores.
To the left:
CREATURES
shoes, great TANO bags and interesting, one-of-a-kind clothes.
LAURA and CORY
own this and:
HOVERCRAFT
across the street. It's all one big, happy family around here.
We actually discovered CREATURES while they were on South First Street and made them move next door.
To the left of Creatures is:
TURQUOISE DOOR
run by TERRY and GARY.
The most flawless collection of Mexican and South American folk art, turquoise, amber, silver, ect, ect.
You just have to see it.
And to the left of them, when you really need it:
CACCOON MASSAGE.
