Shakey Bones -- "damn, I am witnessing rock and roll"
Barely of legal drinking ages, Shakey Bones are on a quickly escalating uprise within the local San Francisco context. Synthesizing folk and punk with refreshing genuinity, they forge complex, relentlessly catchy, and often touching songs about how boring it is to live in Walnut Creek. Once they got enough money together to go "electromagnetic", they took off in the Shakey Bus (an all purpose van-sometimes-house guilded with imagery of soup, dinosaurs, and of course, bones). Live, Shakey Bones put on a show encouraging motion, participation, and having a good time. The melodies recquire singing (or shouting) along, and as they said at Bottom of the Hill, "if the band is dancing more than the audience.. well, the band is cooler than the audience!". Although folk/punk is the genre most often slapped onto them, for real, they're music defies those sort of limitations; more than anything, it's exciting, and well executed. Shakey Bones are one of those rare artists that manage to pick out the chord progressions that speak to audiences on an emotional level (the kind that make goosebumps erupt), yet once a solo kicks in, it leaves you thinking "damn, I am witnessing rock and roll!"
