The Canvas

Unlike any other

About Me

Combining over forty-five years of musical experience, The Canvas is quickly establishing itself as one of DC's premier world music bands. Fusing elements of jazz, funk, Persian, Arabic, Celtic and Latin music into an unique musical experience both passionate and refreshingly original.

The Canvas got its start when Shahin, Brett and Casper met in another project a few years back. Once that was completed, they decided to blaze a trail together with something new in mind. Since then, they have performed for hundreds of people, released their debut CD "Random Thoughts" and are currently working on the follow-up CD.

Available for public or private performances, The Canvas will bring an innovative show to your event like none other. ..

Good times at the party

Tonight, we played for a group of lawyers in downtown DC.  It was a good time; we had a few of them grooving to the music in between their networking and schmoozing -- even sold a few CDs!

The pick's the difference...

We had a final rehearsal before the private party on Thursday.  Shahin got a new sponsor (I think), so he has a mess of picks that he's playing with and trying to find the one that works for him....

Just no heart in it

We got together tonight to run over the set once more, but there was just no ennergy in any of us.  We played fine, no mistakes, but no fire, no spark.

Nothing major this time...

Tonight, the three of us got together and tried to go through as many of our tunes as possible.  Boring, I know, but not all of music is oh so glamorous.

Maybe a tour?

During rehearsal tonight, we started talking about maybe doing a tour.  Shahin knows some folks overseas, Casper has some contacts up in the NE of the US, so you never quite know -- you might jus...

Working out the solos

Tonight, Shahin and Casper got together to work out the solo parts for the new song (Matador).  There are a lot of synchronized parts, and Shahin and Casper are going to have to really stick it f...
