Ive been building guitars and traveling all my life.
Thats what I love. I spent my childhood growing up in Israel, learning to build stringed. After my military service I went traveling. I went to Europe, South America, Central America, and eventually wound up in New York, where I continued building guitars. During my travels, I went to Spain, where I studied Flamenco and classical guitar... I visited many builders here in America as well.
I guess seeing so much traditional building made me want to go for something a little further... a little more challenging than a standard classical guitar.
Recently Ive gained notoriety as the builder who will try anything new.
But to tell you the truth, I'd rather be known as the musicians builder.
I have spent most of my life looking for acoustically perfect sound in the classical guitar. And my goal is to reach a level of perfection in each of my instruments, consistently, that has not yet been achieved by any luthier. This interest led me to the late Richard Schneider, who was a good friend and an inspiration, not to mention in Andres Segovias opinion the man ...in whose hands lies the future of the classical guitar.
I share much of Richards enthusiasm toward this goal. Richard, you may know, is the inventor/master luthier/genius who produced the first Kasha guitar, together with Dr. Michael Kasha - a mathematician, physicist, and acoustical engineer.
Richard said in a radio interview in Los Angeles, "Boaz is the only luthier today who is equipped to carry on my legacy. He knows my meaning; he understands what I'm after. And he's not afraid to try new things to improve the instrument, which is what I've dedicated my life to: perfecting the sound of the classical guitar".
I have produced together with luthier Uncle George Majkowski (my mentor in the Kasha project), a limited edition of 10 of the latest version of Richards Kasha guitar.
Uncle George has worked on the Kasha for many years with Richard, improving it with each prototype. And I can honestly say that without his vision, who's phenomenal expertise and tireless dedication to these instruments, these ten masterpieces would not have been possible. They are rare beauties imprinted with the love and sweat of both of us.
The Kasha was my beginning inspiration for which became Clarita Negra.
The Clarita Negra Recording Guitar - Nylon String:
The Clarita is my own design. I have incorporated everything that I have learned about woods, craftmanship and acoustics in order to produce the finest classical guitar for the recording artist. Take a look at some of the unusual things about the Clarita, such as the sound hole on the side and the grain and coloration of that beautiful Brazilian rosewood. Each peice of wood, whether it be the sound board or the brace wood has been choosen by me for it's performance as well as it's aesthetic beauty. I wanted my dream to be flawless from the inside-out. A look inside it's chamber reveals both its hidden mathematic secrets as well as its organic beauty.
Note: The Clarita Negra guitar pictured here has a slanted nut and frets, which provide for ergonomic fingering when playing in the proper classical position.. Also, the lower-pitched strings are lengthened for better bass response. This is available as a custom option - the standard model has the traditional straight nut and frets.
