It all began in 2001 when Christien registered the company, Nautical Progressions, which was intended to be an on-site/mobile recording studio. Unfortunately, he came to realize that in this digital era, home recording studios were becoming more affordable and thus, more popular. After working with other artists as an engineer/producer, he started dabbling in audio engineering for film and television and this transition gradually steered him into acting.
After having engineered his first feature length movie, “American Diamondsâ€, the director (Steven Hoffner) offered him a lead role in his next feature length film, Wooditis. Having always wanted to be an actor as a child, Christien jumped on the role, in addition, to scoring the original sound track, which featured his first release, “Indigo Children†(instrumental).
Shortly after completing Wooditis, Christien met his first agent. Within the first 6 months of representation, Christien booked six lead roles including commercials for Alliance Atlantis and Corus Entertainment. All of which were booked and performed while attending college full-time and working toward his black belt in Goju Jitsu Ryu .
2005 was an eventful year for Christien. In January he landed first place in his division at the Ontario Jiu Jitsu Championship. Later that same year, Nautical Progressions gave birth to EPKhosting.com , an online magazine for indie musicians. Christien began interviewing and producing electronic press kits for bands, which he would then stream online to simultaneously promote local artists and educate others.
While on his production journey, Christien discovered a new movement for solo artists - the one man band. With the help of Ableton Live, a computer program designed for on the fly sequencing of both midi and audio recordings, Christien could produce the sound of a band solo. It inspired him so much that he became a part of the Ableton Artists movement, coming full circle to his original plan... becoming a performance artist.
TodayCurrently, Christien is pursuing both his acting and music career while incorporating his martial arts and production skills. He continues to fight “Standing Stillâ€, which is not only the name of his upcoming album, but also what has inspired his evolutionary journey. The fear of “Standing Still†or becoming stagnant in one area has driven him to succeed in several areas. Today, he attacks every project he does with the breadth of knowledge he’s acquired over the educational years.
