Grand Theft Parsons ... if only because it's about one of my heros the great, the wonderful, the very deceased GRAM PARSONS. The fantastic Gram Parsons documentary "Fallen Angel" has just been released on DVD too - brilliant.
Walk the Line - about when Johnny Cash met June Carter - BRILLIANT film - heavy as hell, but it's nice to be maudling sometimes!
Reality Bites - just love Ethan Hawke.
Who Do You Think You Are? - If you're into family history ... this show is a must see.
Top of the Pops - was always Thursday night tradition in our house - half the fun was berating the stuff you don't like! How my family laughed when Morrissey made his first appearance - with a twig hanging out his back pocket! Wasn't keen on its Sunday slot - it was easy to miss. Now it's disappeared from our screens altogether - what's all that about?
BBC Four comes up with some great evenings for music lovers. What's more, they tend to do it on a Saturday or Sunday night when there's bog all else to watch on tele! Occasionally they repeat their brilliant country evening - which feature Johnny Cash, Hank Williams et al and includes the brilliant, brilliant Gram Parsons' documentary "Fallen Angel". They are currently devoting plenty of airtime to the Stiff Records label - whose era I grew up in. If you get a chance - check out their listings regularly (or sign up for their weekly newsletter).
Life on Mars - It's baffling, it's intriguing, it's riveting, it's funny, it's scary, it's the BEST programme on tele in YEARS (we're not obsessive are we Kelly Ann?).
Two Pints of Lager - over the top, near the mark, I love it!.
Relocation Relocation - I'd love to OWN my own house - never mind relocate and buy another one - ho hum. A girl can dream can't she?
Don't read as often as I should.
I love biographies about the music business. Particular faves have been:
"Gram Parsons - God's Own Singer" by Jason Walker
"Mr Tambourine Man - The Life & Legacy of the Byrds' Gene Clark" by John Einarson
"I'm with the Band - Confessions of a Groupie" by Pamela Des Barres
"Rock Bottom - Dark Moments in Music Babylon" by Pamela Des Barres
I usually go for the girlie type books that you buy @ Airports. I enjoy both Lisa Jewell & the writing partnership of Josie Lloyd/Emlyn Rees.
I do know my favourite book was called "Eating Cake". It was bought for my 34th birthday by my mate Trina (hi Goddess!) and it made me cry SO badly, I couldn't go out the night I first read it!
I then lent it to my other mate Claire (hi Fortyfab!) and she hasn't given it back.
Motto of the story - don't lend anything to Claire ... she nicks stuff - AND she doesn't even come from South London!
Just bought "The Lost Tribes of Pop" because it looks like it will be just up my street - will let you know what I think (check out LOST TRIBES OF POP in my Friends.
Where would I be without MY FAMILY & MY LITTLE HEROES? (who aren't so little any more), MY FRIENDS, MY NANS & GRANDADS, MY ANCESTORS ... MY FOOTIE HEROES ... and as for MUSIC HEROES ... there are so many they have their own section!
From the English Pills & Pascoes & their forefathers to the Irish McAllisters & Kearns & all who went before
