The Original TreeBeard

About Me

About The Songs That We Have Displayed on This Page The above songs are recordings from our last practice together, we were preparing some of the material that we will be recording for our new CD - "All That Really Matters" and decided to record them for reference. These are all live, two track recordings that I patched out of our old mixing board pre-EQ and effects. After recording them I imported the two tracks for each song into my computer and added a bit of EQ and a touch of reverb to them. What you hear on these recordings is us live, real music from real people....We hope that you enjoy them.
A Little History of TreeBeard In a smokey little bar in Salem, NH called THE STING the beginnings of Treebeard began to form. None of us realized it at the time but this wonderful ride would take us over the next five years from playing at THE STING all the way to appearing on the GRAND OL OPRY Stage and a television special sponsored by Dodge Trucks and Wrangler Jeans.
Back in the Mid 1970s Phil White and Brian Bethune started working up material to play together; this was an easy task as our taste in music was very similar. Some of our favorites at the time were; Harry Chapin, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Simon and Garfunkle and a slew of others. We started playing the open Mic nights around the area and as soon as we had enough material started booking full nights out. After a couple of months Brian and I decided that we really could use a good Bass player to add bottom to our sound and also add a third vocal. A duo that went by the name of Rick and Randy had been playing at the Sting at this time doing some of the same style songs that we were performing and Brian and I both thought that Rich Schaitel who played Bass with Randy would be a Great fit with the two of us and our music. We got together with Rick one night to play a few songs and the core of TREEBEARD was formed.
p.After 23 years apart the three original Members are back together Playing, singing, writing new songs and having a Great time just making music.

Music:

Band Members: Brian Bethune - 12 string Acoustic guitar and vocals. Brian performs most of the lead vocals in TreeBeard. Brian has a very unique vocal style that brings and interesting texture to the trios material. His 12 string acoustic guitar has always been part of TreeBeards sinature sound. Playing both rhythem and lead Brians' picking style adds melodic counterpoint to the trios three part harmony. An accomplished songwriter as well as musician Brian has played with many top musicians in New Hampshire over the years.

Philip White - 6 string and vocals. Phils' vocal harmony is another main contributor to TreeBeards signature sound. on most songs Phil will be signing the first harmony to Brians leads. Phil also plays rhythm 6 string guitar backing up Brians lead guitar playing and melody. Over the years Phil has played with many of the areas top bands and musicians and is also an accomplished songwriter.

Rick Schaitel - Bass player and vocals. Ricks' dynamic Bass work adds another defining element to the TreeBeard sound. His Bass style adds a percussive rhythmic quality that sets the tempo and bottom for all TreeBeards' songs. Rich usually sings the third part harmony on vocals. Rick is one of the most sought after Bass Players in the area and has played with many of the top performers in the area over the years.
