About Me

Tony moved to the Boston area from New Jersey a long time ago, but nothing has changed except he has more fun now, and gained more friends while losing hair at a rate somewhat slower than the arctic icecap. Bands from college and early in his Boston days have been blotted from public record like so many disfavored commissars, their counter-revolutionary ideas relegated to the quiet, unspoken memories of their traumatized survivors.

Tony plays open mikes in and around Cambridge MA. He is not hard to find:Sunday (sometimes) 6B Lounge or Tommy Doyle's (8PM) Monday Lizard Lounge (8 PM) Tuesday Burren and/or Passim (8 PM) Wednesday Davis Square Starbucks (7:30 PM)

Influences: Beatles, XTC, Nirvana, Green Day, Joe Jackson, Michael Penn, Fountains of Wayne, They Might Be Giants, Cole Porter.I honestly wouldn't know the music of Dave Matthews, Martin Sexton, Amy Winehouse or Ellis Paul if you played it for me. This sets me a little apart on the open mike scene.I have a tremendous respect for the people I see playing open mikes or as regulars at the small venues. They inspire and delight -- sometimes to the point where I just assume they are far better than the Dave Matthews and such who have gone on to broad recognition

Litterbugs

It's been an uneven night, but my last willful choice of the evening threw it firmly into the positive karma bucket. I humiliated, or at least inconvenienced a litterbug in a brazen manner.Let me off...

Rocking Park Street Station with Vinnie

I busked for the first time ever last night, joining Vinnie Taormina at Park Street Station at 8 PM last night. We alternated, mostly, but played "Bit of String" and "Your Cheerios" together several ...

My new website... song stories, demos and tabs

I fleshed out just enough of a site at http://tonylovellmusic.com to merit a blogActually, I spent 23 years on it, as some of the songs were that long in the writing cycle. The primary reason to go t...

I hate myspace

I just cannot imagine how this site became so popular. The Calendar function includes a nice helpful means of having repeating events (a key feature for someone who frequents the same open mikes week...

Starbucks and Z-Bar -- with video!

Ok, Wednesday was wild fun. Barnicle, Chris and I performed at Starbucks. Chris was disappointed in his performance for no valid reason, having become flustered after dropping his pick and then get...

Recent performances

Ok.. I kept up the open mike tempo by playing All Asia on Wednesday the 22nd. It is a horrible venue -- none of the few people in the bar paid the performers any mind except the other performers. Fr...
