SUPPORT THE PUGWEISER FUND FOR PDE RESEARCH (PUG DOG ENCEPHALITIS)
TRICKS BY PEANUT THE MAGNIFICENT PUG! (appeared on "PetStar" with Mario Lopez) Disclaimer: Peanut came to our family with about 20 tricks under his belt, we do not have a full history on him and do not know the past training methods, but we can assure you that Peanut lives quite a comfortable life where he takes as many naps as possible, long walks before practicing his tricks and he is never starved or we never mistreat him when he is learning a new trick. He is fed a great diet and the only thing we do is take him for a long walk, give him time to rest and drink lots of water and that gets him very focused. We never punish, hit, yell or mistreat Peanut in order to learn a trick, if he wants to learn it then we proceed, if he does not like it, we move on or let him rest.
Peanut is a Pug for hire for any dog safe event and his earnings go to PDE Research, because Peanut does care about finding a cure for PDE!
*A BIG THANK YOU TO LIN RANDOLPH AND HER PUG LENNY FOR ALLOWING THE PUGWEISER FUND FOR PDE RESEARCH TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS YEARS "GIVING THANKS AND HELPING OTHERS" FUNDRAISER!
We had so much fun at this event! Animal Haven is a great place to hold a dog friendly event! My pugs give it a paws up. It was great meeting everyone at the NYC Meetup. We hope to do more with this group!
Lin Randolph, who is Lenny The Pug's mom (check out www.lennythepug.com) is very active in the pug community and is a great asset and supporter of animal rights and awareness. She has a heart of gold. Please take some time to visit her site and shop til you drop, her profits support a number of canine related causes

A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY PUGS - PICTURES AND STORY BELOW

Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor - Image Hosting

I currently live in Beacon, New York with my husband Craig and my 7 pugs. I am an animal activist and have some experience in working with rescues and rescue organizations. I also have some experience in working with pugs who have needed rehabilitation and developed this page to inform people about our doggy daycare, the care of rescues, especially pugs and to inform the public about a terrible disease calle PDE (Pug Dog Encephalitis).
THE PUGWEISER FUND FOR PDE RESEARCH (PUG DOG ENCEPHALITIS) On April 1, 2007, a friend of mine lost her pug (Pugweiser)to PDE. It was the most profound thing for me to see this pug surrounded by those who truly loved him and his passing affected me so much that it made me want to help bring some light to Pug Dog Encephalitis and help those who are finding a cure for this disease.

This is a terrible disease that is killing many pugs each year. This horrible disease affects pugs between the age 6 months and 7 years. There is no known cure or cause. Because PDE is a breed specific disease, only affecting pugs, there is not much funding or support for those doing research. Dr Kimberly Greer is one of two people doing research for PDE, she is extremely busy but does do her best at updating her website when she can. I have attached a link here so you can see what PDE is all about....

WHAT HAPPENS WITH YOUR DONATION?
Your donation allows Dr. Greer continue her research to find a cure for PDE and allows her to provide the the following:
Collect samples from deceased pugs including the autopsy/necropsy which can be very costly in itself.
Pay for the transport of all pugs coming into the lab, usually via DHL (with ice packaging).
Pay for the cremation of the deceased pug and shipping of the remains back to the rightful owner. Great care is taken to ensure that every owner's pug is handled with the utmost care and love and that each pug is transported back home in a safe and loving manner. Comprehensive reports are also sent back to each owner along with the cremated remains.
Samples of all pugs related to those who have passed on due to PDE are also collected with comprehensive reports that are sent back to their pug moms and/or pug dads.
Dr. Greer has a staff that is dedicated to this project and they all take a great deal of care to make sure that all pugs are handled with love, respect and dignity.

Dr. Greer is going strong on research. She is very friendly and is also a pug mommy of 4, has served on Pug Rescue committees and also lost one of her pugs at a very young age, so she understands how devastating it is to lose a beloved pug. I encourage you to contact her should you lose your dog to PDE or suspect that your pug may have PDE. Dr. Greer also suggests that everyone look at The Pug Dog Club of America's website for information that is updated more frequently on PDE, click below.
By clicking below, you can also view the presentation by Dr. Greer on PDEI am also devoting this page to all who need information on how to rescue, train and keep a pug or any other dog healthy. I have 7 pugs (4 who have all come through rescue). If you have rescued a pug or any other breed, please feel free to write me for any advice. I do have some experience with pulling dogs out of shelters and getting them healthy again, especially those with food allergies which can lead to many other ilnesses. Please stay tuned, as this page is updated weekly.

Little Forgotten Friends Rescue

There is a wonderful rescue in Middletown, NY named Little Fotgotten Friends Rescue. My friend Maria LaRocca is an incredible person, she is the only local hospice I know of in the state of New York, she has an incredible heart and never says to to a pug in need. Maria also takes in several small dogs for rescue and hospice purposes. Please take some time to look at her website and see all she does. Maria can always use your donations as she always has a minimum of 35 dogs in her home at one time.
Click on Daphne the pug above, to be directed to Little Forgotten Friends Rescue, please email Maria or click on the adoptable list for Petfinder for current adoptions.
UPDATE ON DAPHNE A/K/A JD
Unfortunately while I was away, JD/Daphne passed on to Rainbow Bridge. I think that it is important for people to know what these poor dogs go through when they are dumped or no longer wanted. My friend Maria could not have said it better. I urge everyone to read the following note on Maria's website and to contribute in any way to her loving hospice........................... AUGUST 14, 2007..........I have just come back from the vet, JD died 2 minutes after I arrived there. I brought her in yesterday when she began having seizures, we are unsure of why she became unstable on her insulin, there are many factors that can cause this. Upon doing an x-ray there appeared to be a mass in JD's abdomin, this could possiibly have been an underlying factor....However, after many years of rescue, I believe differently!!! I had posted JD as "PLEASE ADOPT", I wrote this because I knew that JD's spirit was very broken from being dumped by her former owners, she so desperateley wanted a home of her own and was becoming more and more depressed when nobody came for her so, since there was no one out there willing to give JD a chance I feel that God came for her himself. I wish that people would realize that when they abandon their pets, it is heart wrenching to them and they sometimes lose their will to live....although JD's owners never cared enough to keep her, JD kept loving them while they were gone....There is NO MEDICINE for a dog with a broken spirit, JD has proved this to me today. I am really sick and tired of peoples excuses for why they cant keep their pets, JD's owners are now happy living in their "new condo" that didnt except pets mean while I sit here in tears for a loving dog that I just couldnt seem to find a home for in time before she gave up....I am hating people REALLY hard right now....My site is viewed by anywhere from 10,000-18,000 people per week, yet NOT ONE was willing to help JD.....however the cute little puppies get 200 e-mails per day per puppy....I cant save every special needs dog by myself, I need help for some of these little ones and I count on all my bleeding heart adopters to open their homes to these lost souls.

LOLA - ENTERED RAINBOW BRIDGE JUNE 9, 2007
While I celebrated my beloved Buckwheat's birthday, I received an email from Ashlei regarding her beloved pug Lola, unfortunately, she was hospitalized the night before with sypmtoms of PDE. I have obtained her permission to share her story and am waiting for a picture of little Lola. I was shocked to hear that Lola was 9 years old and had PDE. Here are bits and pieces of 2 emails:
June 9, 2007
Hi Eev,
Sad news.we had no choice. She went very quck in both our arms. we put her favorite scarf on her, left her favorite toy & had to leave-far too painful. Luckily, after I wrote you I got in touch with Dr. Greer and I am arranging Lola's remains to be sent to Texas for research on PDE. The dr.'s at the hospital cant actually diagnose her, but they agree they are pretty sure it was PDE. instead of responding to treatment, she actually got worse. I feel......like something in me died along with her. I cant cry right now cause I literally cried myself out. My husband too. Now, I am numb-at least for now. when i spoke to dr. greer i felt an over whelming sense of calm. Even though my baby is gone I feel like her passing will stand for something and hopefully help others understand more on pug disorders. I am greatful for coming across your page, otherwise I would not have known about dr. greer. I know the pain will become gradually less overtimee but for now I plan on drowning myself in Lola's memories. we feel like we did everything we could up to this point. her pain & our pain of watching her was too much. I will check in with you soon-thanks for all you do with the pugs!!! Luv the pugs!!! -Ashlei & Walid
June 11, 2007
thanks for the kind words you sent us about Lola. Our hearts are still breaking but me going on the pugvillageofhope really helps me cope. I have spoken to Dr. Greer and Lola will be sent to her tomorrow or the day after. It means so much to us that she will be apart of something so special-finding a cure for this disease & other pug disorders. I love going to your page and seeing pics of your babies:) Even though it makes me sad, I still find myself laughing seeing them in their birthday hats!!! Happy Birthday to Buckwheat-June 9th was the day we had to say goodbye to Lola. It's a day I'll never forget. You absolutely have my permission to use her story & can use the original email I sent you. Anything that helps spread the word about this silent killer. I have read so much on PDE in the last 4 days that I feel I could teach a course or something. Hopefully, is this campaign for PDE gets enough attention, it would be great to get a celebrity like Tori Spelling or Jessica Alba to play some role in this whole thing. Those are two celebrity's that live for their pugs-especially Tori Spelling. If you have ever seen her two shows on TV (they didnt last long), her pug, Mimi LaRu, was always in her arms. She's all about the PUGS! Thanks for being a great support system-pug hugs to all your babies & happy birthday to Buckwheat!!! -Ashlei
I encourage everyone to donate their pug's remains to Dr. Greer so that your pug will make a great contribution to PDE Research. Dr. Greer will handle your pug's remains with respect and dignity and will return fully creamated remains to you at no cost.
PLEASE EMAIL ME YOUR PUG'S PICTURE AND STORY, IF HE/SHE HAS SUFFERED THROUGH PDE!
