Like only a handful of superstar artists, Mike Robinson arrests your attention the moment he walks in a room. This small town, high school quarterback, somewhat shy, southern-boy answers every question thoughtfully, usually with a full complement of down-home politeness rarely found among emerging young artists. But then, to those who have followed his life and career, it comes as no surprise because this extraordinary singer-songwriter has been known as a “stand-out†for most of his life.Growing up in Clarksville Tennessee - a mere 50 or so miles from the heart of Music City USA - Mike vividly remembers sitting for hours on end in his mother’s car listening to the radio and her 8-tracks of Alabama, George Strait, John Cougar Mellencamp and countless other country and rock artists of that era. Early on he nurtured a passion for percussion, drumming on everything he could get his hands on. Then something changed. In Mike’s own words, “ my best friend Terry sat down with an old off-brand guitar and begin playing the chords to some of Jon Bon Jovi’s latest hits…and in a matter of minutes I was mesmerized.†And the rest, as they say, is history. With a deeper appreciation for the melodic side of the music he was playing, Mike traded his drumsticks for guitar picks and set out on a musical journey that now finds him heralded by many of the pros in the business as a superstar in the making. With an uncanny ability to lend just-the-right inflection at just-the-right-moment in a song, Mike’s considered by most of his fans as a mysterious mix of pretty-boy/bad-boy…which, â€I guess,†Mike adds with an impish grin, “ makes me a pretty-bad boyâ€. On a serious note, even the casual listener can identify with the heart and soul of his signature vocals that he has poured into his latest demo project, from the self-penned, frustration and pain-filled Never Loved You, to the fine line between desire and desperation of Maybe. In short, Mike Robinson is a delightful departure from today’s all-sound-the-same crop of new male artists. His musical strengths and sensibilities represent a true reflection of a guy who, like his hard-working mom and dad, has swung at a wide range of both happy and hurtful “curve-balls†that life can throw. From hometown sports hero to the hopelessness of busing tables in a local Mexican restaurant, Mike’s storytelling skills have been seasoned with a heaping measure of “real-life†living and loving. He describes that first-time, magical moment when he laid eyes on his wife Rhonda. “ I was on stage when it hit me…I knew it and felt it almost instantly,†he said with a noticeably more-serious tone to his voice. “This may sound trite,†he added, †but it was as if she was standing there in color…while the rest of the crowd was in black & white.†Now, five years later there’s another addition to that picturesque moment – 4-year old son Bryce – the “other†love of Mike’s life that keeps him focused upon his relentless pursuit of his recording career.Ask Mike to describe his music and you’ll likely get the ever-present humble but straightforward response of, “my music is hopefully just good, genuine music with lots of guts…but no gimmicks.†Ask the same question to the legion of fans that have followed his career throughout the Tennessee/Kentucky club circuit and you’ll likely hear somewhat the same response with one additional comment, “…Mike Robinson makes great country music that’s about as good as it gets!â€
