I love reading and writing. I listen to podcasts. I enjoy sci-fi and thinking about the future. I don't eat mammals. I think I may be harbouring an interest in nice clothes. I'm a nerd with better hair.
People who are interested in ideas and want to leave the world a better place than it was when they arrived.
I went to a semi fucked-up high school that didn't let people listen to music. We also weren't allowed to have girlfriends or pets. Masturbation was also frowned upon. Most everything, in fact, was frowned upon. By the time I'd left high-school, my musical tastes were shot, but my frowning muscles were world class. These days, I volunteer-frown for worthy causes like the state-sanctioned torture that's taking place in America's so-called "dark" prisons. (And that's even after I learned that "dark" doesn't necessarily mean that every prisoner in there is either black or brown. Even though that's also true, I'm told it's just a coincidence.)
You know what's better than going to a good movie? Going to a good movie stoned. It's like putting the movie on entertainment steriods. Plot problems? What plot problems? All I'm thinking about is how delicious pop corn and Junior Mints are when eaten together. Your witty script-doctored dialog dazzles me. Your soundtrack? Moving and evocotive. 10 stars.
Best show on TV? The Wire. You'll never look at cops and robbers that same again. Brilliant writing, incredible performances. This show kicks ass in all departments. I also like, Rome, 30 Rock and Dirty Jobs.
You know what's embarassing? Misspelling embarrassing? Hardly. It's being in your 30s and reading a kids book alone on the subway. Nothing screams "creepy" like rocking a 3-day beard as you rifle through a book that has a girl hugging a tiger on the cover. And that should give you a pretty good idea of how good Philip Pullman kids' series, "His Dark Materials" is. You'll sneak in a couple of pages while you're waiting for your drink at the bar. Serious. Pullman wrote an amazing trilogy that simultaneously pounds the shit out of organised religion while making you want to live a better life. Great stuff.
People who dedicate their lives to making the world a better place. David Suzuki. Carl Sagan. Bill Maher.
