Welcome to Starryville?

Quick—everyone who loves contagious melodies and catchy grooves, pack up your things and move to STARRYVILLE.

Hailing from Virginia and France, the band Starryville came together…by chance…to create the type of music everyone needs…pure rock and roll…collectively influenced by retro, modern and alternative rock sounds… Do not look for us in one tiny box.

Our live show can morph from pulse quickening electric, to quiet acoustic performances, as needed. Our music translates well into any format...from acoustic cafes, to loud rock clubs and outdoor venues.

Starryville evokes a theme, a color and a flavor that is unique, combining melodic and thick guitars with simple rhythms, textural keyboards and driving bass lines. Combined, creating a sound that is different enough, but still able to attract music fans across many genres.

Somewhat cryptic but always in touch with the truth, Alexes’ lyrics interpret modern reality, striving to pull something beautiful from the accumulated chaos of modern life and from her own individual life stories.

We can also be found giving our own unique perspective on beloved cover songs from The Cure to M.I.A. to Madonna and back.

The notion of Starryville was conceived primarily as a studio project in 2003. PJ and Alexes quickly released the EPs "Katsura" and “Nectar” with the help some great friends who happen to be excellent musicians.

The duo of by Alexes and PJ officially evolved into Starryville when Dr. Thorn arrived from far-flung France in 2004. Since then, Starryville has taken on many forms, a trio, to a sextet and back again. We are currently performing as a 5-piece band, playing regionally in Maryland and Virginia at such notable venues as the Iota Club and Cafe, Jammin Java, TT Reynold’s, The City of Manassas …among others.

Their first recording together, “Starryville”, was released in 2006 with the help of Kevin Rucker of Mother Rucker Studios and our best recording yet. Described as a sweetly produced and very listenable disc; with intriguing lyrics and dense soundscapes that feel great motoring' down the highway.

Some recent milestones include: Multiple “Track of the Day” awards on Garageband.com;Played on DC 101’s “Local Licks” and on Pittsburgh’s “Goffus Rock Experience” radio shows; Featured on the 2007 NOVA Rocks compilation CD; Performed live on the University of Maryland’s “Third Rail” radio show.

2008 marks another evolutionary year for the band with a new CD expected this summer.
