About Me

I was born in a bed of yellow roses on a dirty little beach in the part of Florida that should be Alabama. My mom claims I was named after a soap opera star, my dad declared I was named after a jazz song. I'm pretty sure it was my mom's name.

My Interests

sewing, makin' a rukus, and adventures in general.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who enjoys any or all of the following adventures: singing to Rod Stewart like you MEAN it, watching trash TV (mostly Celebreality and E! True Hollywood Stories), exploring the deep dark depths of superiority complexes, dancing dirty south (for real, get on the floor okay), world explorations, neighboorhood explorations, rooftop explorations, bad haircuts, fashion catastrophes, laying pennies on train tracks, taking over America, eating unfamiliar ethnic foods (including and not including the four heavily christmas light lit, adjoined, rude waiter laden, multi-personal and national holiday celebrating, Indian restaurants on 1st avenue), talking to strangers (on streets, trains, and planes, but not buses unless this person has a identity theft problem you should know about), IMPROMPTU DANCE PARTYS, staying up until the rooster crows (and yes, a cock crows in Brooklyn, down the street actually), and all illicit "ladies restroom and/or dresssing room" activities.

Music:

Animal Collective, Crystal Castles, the Gossip, Gogol Bordello, Belle and Sebastian, MADONNA, Bonnie Prince Billy, Cat Power, Peaches, Bjork, Le Tigre, Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley, Neutral Milk Hotel, Joanna Newsome, The Pine Hill Haints, Nowhere Squares, Tom Waits, and many more.

Movies:

Yes, it's true, this is the only movie I like.

Television:

I make it myself.

Books:

Cometbus, non-fiction, and things with pictures (not comics or cartoons).

Heroes:

The Jesus and Madonna (not Jesus' mom, the other one).

Escapism through Rooftops

I'd have to say my biggest complaint is that I can't just be alone. I sleep in other's breaths and rumblings, I wake in other's coughs. I really just want a cup of coffee by myself. I never was one...

Fireworks Between the Steeples and Behind the Projects!

I think my friend Jessica and I should just be married, because sometimes it feels that way. Here's a bulletin she sent out tonight that explains our tipical shitty/fun day:Today I lost my phone on t...

Better living through Alabama

Pre-trip fortune cookie wisdom. On my way to Alabama I made a deal with myself that I'd send a photo to Isabelle every 10 hours or so. That way, even if she wasn't with me she was there. This is what...

Lucky Pennies and Fortune Cookie Wisdom

I got these fortunes on Sunday. I was told all the fortunes were asshole fortunes, but really, these were just uncalled for. Whatever happened to the days of, "A friend is a gift you give yourself"....

The Hungry Bread and Butter Hustle: A review of voluntary employment in New York City

I woke at 2:30-ish a.m. to gasping and moaning. I wasn't really sure of anything, except the fact that it wasn't mine. Desperately I tried to lull myself to sleep, it was miserable and achey, "she's...

Sorry I'm so apologetic: A review of voluntary unemployment in New York City.

I've tried to write this a few times over the last few weeks. Now I've promised myself I will not look for a job until this is finished. And really... I should get a job. The good thing is now that...

The Year I made out in wigs and crashed the VVIP room: 2006, a long year in review.

I spent last New Years, much like I spent the one before it, with Elizabeth. December 31, 2004 was my first day in New York. I arrived sleepless (seeing as I spent the night before the flight making...

No Spring Chickens for Christmas

Answering the question of "What is it like to fall in love in New York?" is about as simple as answering "What is it like to be a born and bred New Yorker?", one minute you're lying in your bed taking...
