Deathead was formed in March 2001 by guitarist/vocalist Chris Jester in his hometown of Dallas, Texas. Along with a couple of friends to help get the band off the ground the band began writing songs. After the departure of flaky, undedicated musicians he moved back to Ogden, Utah where he had previously lived as a kid.
Along with his brother Kelly and bassist Mat Smith, they began what is now one of the most successful line ups the band ever had. After a long search for a drummer the band met Chilean metal head Felipe Martinez who was soon moving to Utah. After auditioning for the band he was soon welcomed as the newest member. From April-September the band rehearsed it's live set and made it's live debut in late September.
The band soon recorded a demo of two tracks Architect of Armageddon and Dragon Head, with the latter reaching number one on the Audiostreet.net metal charts as well as number one on KUOP radio in Oregon.
From September thru December the band played multiple shows and in December Kelly announced he was leaving the band. Never having been a big fan of the Speed/thrash metal genre he decided the time was right to move on.
However he would return to the band to play a one off show with Single Bullet Theory in March. He would later be replaced with temporary guitarist Dan Coxey also of Davidian
The band spent the much of the year working on new material and playing one off shows. Late in the year bassist Mat Smith decided that he could no longer carry on with the band and opted to leave, and in late December of 2005 Felipe announced that he was soon to be leaving to move back to Chile.
The timing was perfect as the band had just signed with Infernal Agony Productions, so with replacements Alex Hinerman on bass and Jason Kallas on bass the band set off to release their debut for Infernal Agony.
Over the course of time the band suffered thru several lineup changes with the most successful to date seeing the band work as a trio with the lineup of Chris on guitar and vocals, Chris "Och" O'Shea on bass and drummer Matt Wulf. However it wouldn't last and the band as of right now stands with Chris on guitar and vocals, guitarist Terry Day and drummer Rusty Davis and the band is currently seeking a bass guitarist
In February the band briefly replaced Rusty Davis with Andrew Christianson who for family reasons left shortly after. The band has recently brought back former drummer Matt Wulf who played with the band last year. The band is currently seeking a permanent bassist and working on their set for some upcoming shows in the summer
As the band stands at time of this writing is
In June of 2008 Matt and Terry both left the band. Terry said he was unable to commit the requirements of being in Deathead (such as playing live, recording etc....) Matt gave no reason.
As of the time of this writing the band has gone into the studio with an undisclosed lineup and is recording an ep titled An Offering To The Gods with plans for an early winter release. Once the album is finished the lineup will be announced.
