Yes, I would love to buy a Yamon Yamon record for pretty much no money at all!
Ok, let’s do a mind experiment. Imagine all your favorite Chicago bands, mix them with the kind of pop sensibility that made Swedish bands huge abroad, combine those two factors with experimentalism, chord patterns filtered in jazz and the urge to explore and advance the art of writing pop music. What do you get, hm? Don’t worry, we’ve got the answer for you; Yamon Yamon!
This quartet delivers their shimmering indie compositions with such a natural touch that it’s impossible not to surrender. From the immediate guitar hooks in “Now better timing” to the subtle beauty of “Winter’s grasp”, this limited edition debut-ep from Stockholms best kept secret is the perfect invitation to Yamon Yamon’s musical vision.
It all starts during the fall of 2002. Drummer Christoffer Öberg and guitarist/vocalist Jon Lennblad studies music at Wiks folkhögskola outside of Uppsala, Sweden. For a long time, the band only consists of these two members, and they are set on making postrock soundscapes. All that is about to change though, as they move to Stockholm. Determined to modify their sound and pick up speed, the band meets Joakim Labraaten who takes on the roles of second guitarist in the band. They then head to Norrköping to record six songs with producer and friend Daniel Vegerfors, and the recording proves to be a success as four of the tracks recorded ends up on the EP "Days Like Television". Pretty soon John Sjöberg is enlisted as bassplayer and the setting is now complete. Having metamorphosed from an experimental postrock-band to a experimental pop-band, the journey has just begun for Yamon Yamon. They are about to go from unknown to well-known, and we will sincerely do everything to help them every step of the way.
Thank you for listening,
