About Me

*

Old-school, train-hoppin’, finger lickin’, lounge lizard, smooth sailin’, harmonica wailin’, rag
filled, foot stompin’, hi-hat ringin’, body
feelin’, fingerstyle blues guitar.

Mr. Fitzsimons is a musician out of Asheville, NC.
The styles he traverses are broad, but a thread links
them neatly with a thumpin’ alternating bass line through
much of his repetoire. His music leans on the bluesy/jazzy side of things
which he brings into every tune. Styles played include blues,
ragtime, jazz, country, old-time, western swing, and traditionals.
"Fitzsimons brings worldliness to his performances."
- Alli Marshall, Mountain Xpress, Asheville, NC, August 2, 2006
"A one-man band whose finger-picked guitar style is often accompanied by a bass drum and hi-hat as well as a harmonica and his slinky voice, Fitzsimons can keep it all together and delivers a
homespun, bluesy folk jazz blend that is right on the money."
- David Brewer, High Country News, Boone, NC, May 11, 2006
"Some of the best, pleasurable, and crisp finger-picking magic
this side of the Appalachians."
- Pasckie Pascua, the indie, Asheville, NC, September 5, 2006
"Asheville’s Patrick Fitzsimons takes rugged individualism to
a whole new level."
- Laura Blackley, Citizen-Times, Asheville, NC, May 5, 2006
"...his style hearkens back to an era when an electric guitar was
seen as an interloper."
- Hunter Pope, music critic for Mountain Xpress, Asheville, NC, October 5, 2005
"Dear Patrick, I hope you get a lot of congratulations today. Your performances at the competition yesterday were really inspiring. I’m very happy to have won, but would not have minded one bit
if we had come in second to you."
- Jonathan Newell, piano player for Mighty Lester, winners of 19th annual Piedmont Blues Preservation Society Blues Challenge, September 26, 2005
