Spontaneous is a Baltimore-born and bred DJ who has been making his
mark in the Mid-Atlantic. Known for his skills and his ability to
connect with people of all ages and cultures, he has established
himself as one of the top DJs in the Baltimore area.
Inspired by DJs like Jazzy Jeff, Kid Capri and local Baltimore DJs
Titan and Lil Mic, Spontaneous first started playing around on the
turntables in 1996. Getting serious with it a couple years later after
graduating from high school, It wasn't long before Spontaneous built a
solid reputation for being a skilled and exciting DJ, moving crowds
with his mix of Hip-Hop, R&B, Dancehall, Soul, and Baltimore Club
Music.
"I love the creative aspect of DJing, as well as the power it gives
me" Spontaneous explains. "I can change someone's mood from depressed
and upset to excited and positive. The whole process of coming up with
an idea, practicing it to perfecting it, and then hearing the crowd
roar in approval is one of the greatest feelings in the world."
2004 was a banner year for DJ Spontaneous. In August, after submitting
a videotaped performance and performing live in front of the Stone
Soul Picnic audience, he was chosen as the winner of WERQ's (92Q)
competition for morning show mixer of the Big Phat Morning Show.
Listeners could hear Spontaneous every morning at 7 am doing the
"Morning Workout Mix" on Baltimore's top-rated morning show. He spent
three years on the show. He also has TV experience, including regular
appearances on WMAR's "Saturday Night in Baltimore" show.
That same year, Spontaneous also established Spontaneous
Entertainment, which specializes in providing entertainment for
corporate events, school functions, weddings, private parties, and
other events.
2005 was even better, with Spontaneous' role in the morning show
expanding from mixer to full time on-air personality for the show (the
first time a DJ has made this transition). In 2005, he was also
selected as an official Bum Squad DJ. Most notably, DJ Spontaneous was
named "Best Hip Hop DJ" in the City Paper's Annual Best of Baltimore
Issue. DJ Spontaneous has opened for a number of high-profile artists,
including Usher and Kanye West (The Truth Tour at the Baltimore
Arena), LL Cool J (Baltimore's African American Heritage Festival),
M.O.P, Lil Mo, Little Brother, and more.
Most recently, Spontaneous was tapped to be the official tour DJ for
Atlantic Recording artist Trey Songz.
On the party scene, Spontaneous can be found at area hot spots such as
Eden's Lounge, Sistas Place and Rush Hour on a weekly basis. He is also the DJ for
Hip Hop Karaoke, which won "Best Karaoke" award in the 2007 City Paper
"Best of Baltimore" issue. His reputation in Baltimore,DC and Atlanta
continues to strengthen, while his name is getting stronger in other
areas, as well. His goal is to increase his fanbase on a much larger
scale.
To date, Spontaneous has released 15 official mixtapes/cd's,
including a joint effort with DJ K-Swift for the Cornerstone series.
With a growing reputation and an ever-expanding fanbase, DJ
Spontaneous' goals are simple: "I just want to affect people
positively every time they hear/see me spin, to break the best new
music, gain worldwide respect and recognition" and he adds, laughing,
"to make a nice piece of change".
