Culture Shock LA

Congrats to the NEW team!!!

About Me

Culture Shock is a non-profit youth outreach organization that uses Hip Hop/street dance to empower the youth in their communities to stay away from drugs, violence and negativity. The company's intent is to cultivate the Hip Hop dance form, teach and perform it with the same dedication and respect commanded by other "classic" dance forms. Culture Shock believes that by validating the dance created by kids on the street, we are validating the kids as well and, at the same time, providing a positive example for the youth to follow.
Culture Shock was originally developed in 1993 under the direction of Nike Fitness Trainer, Angie Bunch, in San Diego, CA. Over the following years, Culture Shock became a global organization with national dance troupes in Los Angeles, Oakland, Las Vegas, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and Washington DC; as well as international dance troupes in Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Portugal. Today, Culture Shock is represented in over 13 cities world-wide with each group sharing the same mission statement: We are a troupe of individuals who trough the power of music and dance, cultivate self-worth, dignity, and respect for all people.

A BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE presented by Culture Shock & Future Shock LA

Music:

Culture Shock LA has created its very own workshop curriculum to provide to locations where dance resources are less available. The workshop utilizes dance and the arts to foster important life skills. Students study fundamentals in Hip Hop/street dance while performing activities that develop their physical, mental, and social abilities. The workshop curriculum is guided by the CA State Standards for Art Education and provides a comprehensive, practical education of Hip Hop/street dance.

Movies:

Culture Shock has reached thousands of students through inspirational performances at school sponsored lecture demonstrations. Presentations include an introduction to the history of Hip Hop/street dance, dance performances and instruction, and positive messages that encourage good health, foster self-esteem, and provide a model for perseverance, education, and productivity.

Television:

Future Shock LA is a youth dance company comprised of dances under the age of 18 and directed by Culture Shock LA. The program allows youth to gain hands-on experience in performing and studying Hip Hop/street dance in a healthy, family-oriented atmosphere. Culture Shock dancers serve as role-models and teachers to encourage the team to practice team work, achievement, and self-expression in a creative and no-judgemental environment. Future Shock also serves as a training ground for the youth to grow and become future advocates of Hip Hop/street dance.
They are the "future" of Culture Shock - the living realization and continuation of the Culture Shock vision.
