About Me

Living the Dream: Langston Hughes once wrote:
"Hold fast to dreams...for if dreams die, Life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly."
My Dreams feed my soul. I'm living a dream when I can express my inner-self through the art of dance. I started practicing the street dance style of popping in 1982, then started breaking in 1983. As a kid, I loved these dances then, but now, I love and appreciate them even more.
I'm a believer. I believe dancing helps me understand myself. It sets my imagination free, and causes me to appreciate God's gift to me. I believe in the act of creative expression through true hip hop culture: b-boyin, graf art, dj'in, MC'in, spoken and written word poetry, and sharing these expressive mediums with others.
My inspirations include KRS1, Zapp/Roger, and RunDMC. Influenced by Old school hip hop (Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five). Mostly listen to Rock/Blues (Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Staind, Audioslave/Chris Cornell, Oasis, Hendrix, SRV, Zeppelin, Elvis Presley, Elvis Costello, STP,Kiss, Beatles, Weezer, MXPX, Doves, Eagles, Indigenous, The Fray, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Counting Crows, Styx, Incubus, and Red Hot Chili Peppers). Touched and inspired by Gospel (Commissioned, Fred Hammond, Winans, John P. Kee, Kirk Franklin), and Jazz (John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Diana Krall, Ella, Billie, and Mel Torme).
I believe in the calling of all believers to make their world a better place to live, learn and grow. I am blessed to realize this when I work with others who not only inspire me, but also help transform my very being...
Warlock, Bboy Don, and Lobo- Funny Bones Crew Represente!
Dance is ingrained in me from Latin (salsa) to funk styles, to old school locking. Inspired at a young age by the breakers from New York (Rock Steady Crew, New York City Breakers, Dynamic Rockers, Incredible Breakers). God has blessed me with friends who have the same passions, and a daughter who beautifully graces my life with her laughter, dance, and poetry. Acting, spoken and written word poetry, public speaking and teaching dance workshops also pass the time. I'm moved by music and art with a message to uplift, encourage, and help bring self-thought, expression, and understanding. I'd like to think that despite the darkness in the world, there is hope.
I am blessed to be a member of Funny Bones Poppin Crew / Soul 2 Soul B-boys, Artistic Advisor for Culture Shock LA Dance Company, dancer/choreographer/Instructor for Mosaic-Urban Poets Performing Arts Company, Los Angeles.
Proud to be sponsored by Kleenhouse Clothing providing "Outer Wear 4 Inner Peace!"(My SD Family- Todd) and Southern California's premiere cultural center Homeland Long Beach offering a positive outlet for hip hop artistic freedom (Especially for poppers, lockers and bboys, and graf writers) Shout out to my MC Homies in Kosmic Four (Fearo and Dove Roc) for hookin' that up! It is truly a gift to be connected to such friends, family, and mentors.

My Interests

God. Family. Friends. Work. Dance. Writing. Teaching. Learning. Counseling. Running in the rain. Rockclimbing. Good Music. COFFEE. Rockin out in my car (my second home!) These are gifts given to me. I understand that I must freely share the gifts God has given to me through service and outreach. I now understand that using your gifts is a form of worship to God. I'm thankful for this revelation. Nothing touches me more than witnessing the charity in action that others generate. I give much respect to those who are generous about the gifts bestowed upon them. God bless them.
(Yeah---Rockin' out in my car is a gift!!!haha)

I love hangin' out with friends and family in LA, LBC, OC, and San Diego! No place on earth like Southern Cali! It's all here!

As teachers, we lead by example. We hold it within our power to empower. It is a great responsibility, but where much is given, much is required...Work at Golden West College Adult Transition Program is a blessing!
2nd job, as a Behavior Intervention Specialist for kids and adults with developmental disabilities for the past 11 years, has been a valuable learning experience!

"What is Man without God? ...A Slave..." Bboy Don-from the Poem "Slave" (2008)

"A Cypher is a force so powerful, moving my imagination, setting my mind free...Causing visions to manifest... my B-boy destiny..."
---Bboy Don from the poem Breakin' Is My Reality 2006

Dance is the language of inner-expression through physical movement, encompassing the perpetual sway of rhythmic sensations brought to life by the sporadic patterns in all music...there are no limits...

Only the perception of what is, and what is truly possible.

Those who dance, or aspire to dance, long to express themselves creatively, adding color to life. Hip Hop Culture embodies artistic expression, individualism, and community. Music sets my mind and body free, causing me to see endless possibilities to eminate the song inside me. Music is the background of my lifescape: from rock and jazz, to funk and soul, sometimes I have to let the music take control and just move to the groove... I'm not here to prove anything in this world, I only have something to say, and that is to "seize the moment---that's right---I just want to seize the day." This is what is interesting to me. I'm interested in others who feel the same way.

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

I'd like to meet:

Individuals who use their gifts and talents to uplift, encourage, and bless others. The world is a better place when we realize that we are not alone, and that we are all interdependent on each other in some way.

Bboy Don's Dance Bio:
Don Sevilla (B-boy Don)
Don began his dance journey in 1982, when he became fascinated by the street dance style known as “popping.” The creative aspect of forming illusions with the body is what attracted him most to this style. In 1983, he was drawn to the more acrobatic and physically demanding dance style of “breaking” because some of the moves resembled "Kung Fu," another art form Don was passionate about. Since then, his love for dance continued to grow and evolve. After receiving his BA degree in Sociology from the University of California, Irvine in 1992, Don has worked as a Behavior Intervention Specialist and Special Education teacher in addition to his professional and community work in dance education. He believes that dance is a powerful medium of artistic expression that helps foster character development, self-confidence, and self-esteem for at-risk youth. He has instructed for community outreach programs including Homeland Cultural Center of Long Beach CA, Peace4Kids-Watts, CA, Orangewood Children's Home, and Kidworks of Santa Ana, CA. He has taught and choreographed for various dance teams and companies throughout Los Angeles and Orange County, including beginning through advanced workshops in popping and breaking at JayVee Dance Studio, Project Hope, CSLA H4 Conference, and Future Shock LA. Don has served as co-artistic director for "In Rhythm With Him" Dance Ministry of Orange County(2005-2008), currently serves as Artistic Advisor for Culture Shock Los Angeles, and is an active member of Mosaic Urban Poets Performing Arts Company, having toured the nation performing in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Alabama, and Las Vegas, in addition to various venues throughout LA, San Francisco, and San Diego. Bboy Don is also a part of the "Funny Bones Popping Crew/Soul 2 Soul Breakers" family who have performed on the DUB Tour, LATV’s Hip Hop Show, Mun2, Hot 92 Jams Summer Concert Series, and the upcoming hip hop film, Platinum Illusions. "Dance is God's gift to me...So I will teach it, share it, express it and...live it." (Bboy Don 2008)
