Teens Can Make A Difference. [B2BC]

About Me

Cancer is one of the leading disease-caused deaths today, taking many lives and ruining others. Biking2BeatCancer, representing the rest of the growing youth population, recognizes this fact. Our primary goal is to achieve a better understanding and a larger representation of teens fighting against cancer. Biking2BeatCancer wants to prove to other youths that anyone can make a difference. Bikin2BeatCancer wants to have the growing population use their knowledge and skills to the full extent.
In 2006, Biking2BeatCancer started off with three teens. With rudimentary organization and knowledge in fundraisers, we were only able to reach out to cities neighboring our hometown of Irvine. However, as a couple of teens, Biking2BeatCancer2006 achieved it's goal by trying to ultimately change the world with the first step being changing our community.
Biking2BeatCancer rode for Healing Odyssey, a non-profit organization that helps women fight against all forms of cancer. Along with the support of our family, Katharine Gallagher, and many other friends, Sasan and Rock came together with an idea that will hopefully change many views on cancer and raise much more awareness.
When the idea was first brought up by two 15 year olds in summer of 2005, Rock Hwang and Sasan Zomorodian (both juniors in high school now), they were rejected. It sounded impossible to a bunch of high schoolers at that age, but their rejection was the fuel to the fire. The fact that others believed they could not make a difference motivated the Biking2BeatCancer cause. It was until the impossible was soon made possible in Spring Break of 2006, where these two riders, along with Nik Vallens gave up a 10 day break from school and used the free time to ride 1,000 miles and raise money for Healing Odyssey. Fighting thousand foot climbs and continuous torture of head winds, Biking2BeatCancer, under the guidance of Bill Beacham, raised well over $5,000 for this non-profit organization.
With first timer's luck, the first ride for Biking2BeatCancer was considered a success. It was not until the beginning 2006-2007 school year started that Rock and Sasan began thinking of doing it for the second year in a row. In 2007, Biking2BeatCancer hopes to reach further than Orange County and Southern California. Unfortunately, Nik Vallens has been experiencing extreme foot problems since right after Biking2BeatCancer 2006 and therefore will not be joining on the next ride.
Biking2BeatCancer wants to raise a team of youths to help make a difference. Biking2BeatCancer wants to prove that teenagers around the world can make a difference, but we need YOUR help.
Although cancer has not effected us personally, we have friends and know numerous families that have been a part of this ongoing struggle. This ride is for these people. A lost family member can never be replaced, but there are alternate ways in which we can return something, anything, to them. This ride is dedicated to them.
Biking2BeatCancer is a non-profit organization that takes no donations. However, it would be greatly appreciated if donations would be given to Healing Odyssey in their battle to find a cure.

My Interests

But athletes, especially cyclists, are in the business of denial. You deny all the aches and pains because you have to in order to finish the race. It's a sport of self-abuse. You're on your bike for the whole day, six and seven hours, in all kinds of weather and conditions, over cobblestones and gravel, in mud and wind and rain, and even hail, and you do not give in to pain. Everything hurts. Your back hurts, your feet hurt, your hands hurt, your neck hurts, your legs hurt, and of course, your butt hurts.
--Lance Armstrong from "It's Not About The Bike. My Journey Back To Life."

I'd like to meet:
